As part of my CAS Creativity experience, I participated in the BM Spark Tank held on 22nd January, where I pitched about my company based on making organic fertiliser. This experience required me to creatively present a business idea that addresses environmental sustainability while applying business and communication skills.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for blossoming
While presenting at the BM Spark Tank, I identified my strengths in confidently explaining my product idea, using a clear structure, and engaging the audience through effective verbal communication. At the same time, I recognised areas for growth such as managing nervousness, improving voice modulation, and responding more fluently to the questions.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Pitching in the Spark Tank was challenging as it required presenting complex ideas clearly within a limited time. I developed new skills in structuring a persuasive pitch, using business terminology effectively, and responding to feedback, which enhanced my communication and critical thinking abilities.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:
I showed perseverance and commitment by carefully working on the feedback I received and improving my presentation. For one week, I regularly worked on my content and practice, taking responsibility for preparing well.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
This experience involved collaboration with peers and teachers through discussions, feedback sessions, and idea refinement. Working collaboratively helped me improve my ideas, gain diverse perspectives, and understand the value of teamwork in developing innovative business solutions.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
The organic fertiliser product addresses global issues such as environmental sustainability, soil degradation, and responsible agricultural practices. By promoting eco-friendly alternatives to chemical fertilisers, this experience allowed me to engage with a real-world issue of global significance.
Reflection
Through this experience, I learned how creative ideas can be used to address real-world environmental issues such as the harmful effects of chemical fertilisers. While preparing and presenting my organic fertiliser pitch, I understood the importance of responsibility, feedback, and clear communication in promoting sustainable solutions.
