CAS – Garba fest – Activity

Garba Fest was a cultural activity organized to celebrate traditional Indian dance while encouraging physical activity and community participation. I took part as an active participant, engaging in Garba for extended periods along with my peers. My goals were to improve my physical stamina, step out of my comfort zone by performing in a group setting, and appreciate the cultural significance of Garba. I also aimed to be more mindful of discipline, coordination, and respect for cultural traditions while participating in a large, energetic event that required both preparation and responsibility.

Reflection Based on Learning Outcomes

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through Garba Fest, I recognized my strength in rhythm and endurance, as I was able to maintain energy and coordination throughout long dance sessions. However, I also became aware of areas for growth, particularly in mastering complex steps and maintaining consistency in fast-paced movements. Becoming aware of these weaknesses motivated me to practice more consciously. Understanding my strengths and limitations helped me appreciate the importance of self-awareness in personal development and encouraged me to work towards improvement rather than comparison with others.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
One of the main challenges was sustaining physical energy while synchronizing movements with a large group. Since Garba requires continuous motion and coordination, it was physically demanding. I overcame this challenge by pacing myself, observing others, and gradually improving my stamina and footwork. I also developed better coordination and spatial awareness, skills that are valuable in any group-based physical activity. Taking on this challenge boosted my confidence and reinforced the importance of pushing personal limits to grow.

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Participating effectively in Garba Fest required preparation, including understanding the schedule, practicing steps in advance, and managing my time alongside academic responsibilities. I had to plan my participation consciously to ensure I could commit fully on the day of the event. This experience highlighted how planning—even for participation-based activities—is essential for meaningful engagement. It has made me more organized and confident in initiating and preparing for future CAS experiences.

LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Garba Fest involved ethical considerations related to cultural respect and inclusivity. I was mindful of wearing appropriate attire, following traditional norms, and respecting the cultural and religious significance of Garba. Additionally, being part of a large group required responsible behavior to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. This experience reinforced the importance of being respectful, disciplined, and culturally sensitive when participating in traditional celebrations, especially in a diverse community.
