As someone with a strong interest in programming and computer science, I wanted to use my Creativity CAS experience to further develop my coding skills while challenging myself to learn new concepts. For this experience, I decided to work through structured courses including 100 Days of Python, a Full Web Development Bootcamp, and Python Data Structures and Algorithms with LeetCode exercises. My aim was not only to learn new programming languages, concepts, and techniques, but also to become more consistent and confident when solving programming problems. I chose this experience because coding allows me to combine creativity and logical thinking to develop practical solutions. Throughout the experience, I will document my progress, reflect on challenges, and identify how my skills and approach to problem-solving develop over time.
LO1 — Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this CAS experience, I will identify my existing strengths in programming, particularly in Python, logical thinking, and problem-solving. At the same time, I will recognise areas where I need to improve, such as understanding advanced data structures, algorithms, and developing more complex web applications. By completing the different courses and coding exercises, I will be able to track my progress and identify how my skills improve over time. This experience will help me understand that although I already have a foundation in programming, there are many areas where I can continue to develop.
LO2 — Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
This experience will challenge me to learn concepts that are more advanced than what I currently know. The Data Structures and Algorithms course and LeetCode exercises will require me to solve unfamiliar problems and find efficient solutions. Similarly, the web development bootcamp will introduce me to new technologies and development techniques. When I encounter difficult problems or make mistakes in my code, I will analyse the issue, research possible solutions, and try again. Through these challenges, I will develop new technical skills as well as improve my patience, persistence, and problem-solving abilities.
LO4 — Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Completing these courses requires regular practice and consistent effort over an extended period of time. I will demonstrate commitment by following a regular coding schedule and continuing to work on the courses even when certain concepts or exercises become difficult. The 100 Days of Python course in particular will require me to maintain consistency over a long period. I will record my progress and reflect on any difficulties I experience. By continuing to practise instead of giving up when I make mistakes, I will develop greater perseverance and discipline.
LO5 — Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
Although most of this CAS experience will involve individual coding practice, I will also have opportunities to learn from and collaborate with other programmers through coding communities, discussions, and shared programming resources. I can discuss different approaches to solving programming problems and compare solutions with others. This will help me understand that the same programming problem can have multiple possible solutions. Through collaboration, I will improve my ability to communicate technical ideas, accept feedback, and learn from the approaches of others.
Overall, this CAS experience has allowed me to develop both my technical and personal skills through consistent coding practice. I have been able to recognise my strengths in programming while also identifying areas that require further improvement. Working through challenging Python, web development, data structures, and LeetCode exercises has taught me to approach problems patiently and try different solutions instead of giving up when my first attempt does not work. Maintaining consistency throughout the experience has also strengthened my commitment and perseverance. In addition, learning from other programmers and comparing different approaches has helped me understand the value of collaboration. Most importantly, this experience has increased my confidence in programming and motivated me to continue developing my skills and applying them to larger and more meaningful projects in the future.
