Farewell Dance – Creativity, Activity

As part of my CAS Creativity experience, I participated in a dance performance at our senior’s farewell. What began as a fun opportunity to complete my friends eventually became an experience that taught me a lot about commitment, teamwork, and stepping outside my comfort zone.

LO1- Our preparation started a few weeks before the farewell. Since regular school hours were busy with classes and assignments, our group decided to come to school early in the morning to practice. Waking up earlier than usual was difficult at first, but gradually it became part of my routine. These early practices made me realize how much effort goes into even a short performance. I also began to recognize my strengths and areas for growth.I noticed that I was comfortable remembering choreography quickly, but I needed to work on confidence and expressions so that my performance looked more natural and engaging.

LO2- Learning the choreography and performing in front of a large audience felt like undertaking a new challenge for me. Although I enjoy dancing casually with friends and family, performing on stage in front of teachers and students was a different experience. Initially, I was nervous about making mistakes or forgetting steps. However, as practices continued and encouragement by my friends, I became more confident and comfortable with the routine.

LO3 – Throughout the process, we also had to be mindful of planning and initiating activities . Since we were organizing practices ourselves, we had to decide rehearsal timings, practice schedules, and song arrangements. Managing this alongside academic responsibilities helped me improve my time management and organizational skills.

LO4 – The weeks of preparation required perseverance and commitment. There were days when we felt tired or stressed because of upcoming tests and schoolwork, but we still made the effort to attend practice coming in early to school and improve the routine. Consistently showing up and putting in effort helped me understand the importance of dedication when working toward a shared goal.

LO-5 – Another important aspect of this experience was collaboration . Dance is not just about individual performance; it requires coordination with others. Our group had to work together to synchronize movements, decide formations, and adjust timings. At times, we had different ideas about choreography or transitions, but we learned to listen to each other and find solutions that worked for everyone. This process helped us build stronger communication and teamwork skills.

LO6 – The performance also allowed us to engage with issues of global significance  in a small but meaningful way. Our dance celebrated gratitude, friendship, and the transition from one stage of life to another experiences that students around the world share. It reminded me how art and performance can communicate emotions and experiences that are universally understood.

Overall, this experience was more than just a dance performance. It helped me grow in confidence, taught me the value of teamwork, and showed me how dedication and collaboration can turn a simple idea into something memorable. It also reminded me that creativity in CAS is not just about artistic expression but about the process of learning, improving, and working together.
