“FS Got Talent” is among the most exciting and anticipated events at our school, offering students a platform to showcase their talents across a range of disciplines including music, dance, comedy, and creative expression. The event is a celebration of confidence, participation, and individuality, and simply being part of such an energetic and vibrant atmosphere naturally pushed me to step outside my comfort zone. This year, I took to the stage with my partner to perform a dance routine in front of a large audience — something I had never imagined myself feeling confident enough to do before. Through this experience, I gained a much stronger sense of confidence, developed a deeper sense of commitment, and came to truly appreciate the value of collaboration.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Taking part in FS Got Talent was an experience that was equally challenging and revealing. I began the journey with a fear of performing on stage and limited confidence in my dancing abilities, but the process of preparing and delivering the routine pushed me well beyond my comfort zone. Along the way, I uncovered strengths I had not anticipated, including creativity, commitment, and the capacity to perform under pressure. At the same time, I acknowledged that there are still areas I need to develop, particularly my coordination and overall confidence on stage. This experience was a powerful reminder that genuine growth occurs when you confront your fears and are willing to try something completely unfamiliar.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken
Dance is not something I engage in regularly, and given that I am no expert in it, this experience presented a genuine challenge from the outset. Learning a full dance routine from scratch demanded considerable effort, particularly when it came to memorizing all the steps, perfecting the movements, and staying in sync with my partner throughout. Adding to this, my fear of performing on stage made the prospect of dancing in front of such a large audience feel intimidating at first. Maintaining the right facial and body expressions while dancing required both physical and mental effort, as with every beat of the song I had to consciously manage my focus, posture, and overall performance quality. Through consistent practice and determination, however, I gradually grew more comfortable and confident in my abilities.
That said, the performance on the day of the event did not go entirely as planned. While the opening of our routine went quite well, when the music transitioned to the next song, I suddenly lost track of my position and found myself standing on the side where my partner was meant to be. For a brief moment, I felt a surge of embarrassment and panic, aware that the audience had likely noticed the error. However, rather than freezing up, I quickly composed myself, moved back to the correct position, and carried on with the performance. That moment turned out to be one of the most valuable lessons of the entire experience. It highlighted the importance of staying calm under pressure and not allowing a single mistake to derail your efforts. Despite the discomfort of the situation, I handled it with composure and saw the performance through to the very end.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
During the preparation for FS Got Talent, my partner and I invested a great deal of time and effort into planning and shaping our dance performance together. Rather than following a pre-existing routine, we wanted to create something that felt authentically ours. We carefully selected our songs with consideration for the emotions and energy they conveyed, and then set about designing our own choreography to complement them. As we planned the routine, we continuously thought about how the performance would appear from the audience’s point of view. We experimented with various movements, positions, and transitions between the two songs to ensure the performance flowed naturally and seamlessly. Some ideas came together effortlessly, while others simply did not feel right, so we kept refining and experimenting until we arrived at movements that felt both natural and meaningful to us both.
The entire process demanded a great deal of creativity and teamwork. We had to genuinely listen to each other’s ideas, embrace changes, and offer support whenever a particular move proved difficult to execute. Through this experience, I developed a deep appreciation for the thought, effort, and organisation that goes into building a performance from the ground up. It gave me a newfound respect for the creative process behind dance and made me feel far more personally connected to the performance, knowing that it was something we had crafted entirely on our own.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Collaborating with my friend throughout this dance experience made the entire journey all the more enjoyable and rewarding. My partner, being a more experienced dancer, was the one who encouraged me to take part in the event in the first place, giving me the push I needed to step outside my comfort zone. There were moments when one of us felt less assured about certain steps, and in those instances, we supported each other and patiently worked through those sections together. At times, we had differing opinions on how a particular move should look or when a transition should occur, but rather than allowing those differences to create tension, we learned to set aside our individual preferences and focus on what would serve the performance best. This taught me that collaboration is not always straightforward, but its value is immeasurable. By the time we took to the stage, our performance felt cohesive and strong — not because either of us was individually flawless, but because we had developed a deep understanding of each other’s timing, consistently supported one another, and remained united in working towards a shared goal.
Conclusion
In summary, taking part in FS Got Talent proved to be a truly meaningful and impactful experience for me. It presented me with the opportunity to challenge myself, explore something new, and grow beyond my comfort zone within a supportive and encouraging environment. The journey of preparing for and delivering the performance instilled in me a deeper understanding of the importance of consistency, confidence, and cooperation. Overall, this experience has left me with a heightened sense of self-belief and a stronger foundation of discipline, both of which I intend to carry forward into whatever experiences lie ahead.
