CAS Experience: Trek to Bhavarkada Waterfalls – Activity

On 25th July 2025, we went on a one-day CAS trip to Bhavarkada Waterfalls in Dang. As this was one of my first trekking experiences, it was both exciting and challenging, with slippery and uneven trails along with unpredictable weather conditions. With each step on the muddy paths, I found myself actively engaging with various learning outcomes, which are discussed below.

Learning Outcome 2 – Taking on Challenges and Gaining New Skills

Participating in the trek to Bhavarkada Waterfalls required me to take on a new and unfamiliar challenge. As it was one of my first trekking experiences, navigating through slippery, uneven paths and adapting to unpredictable weather conditions was not easy. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and tested both my physical endurance and mental strength. Through this experience, I developed new skills such as maintaining balance on rough terrain, adjusting my pace according to the environment, and staying focused despite fatigue. I also improved my ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions. Overall, this challenge helped me grow by building resilience and equipping me with skills that I had not developed before.

Learning outcome 3 – Initiating and planning a CAS experience

During this trek, I understood the importance of thorough planning and preparation. Although I was generally ready for the trail and had packed basic essentials, I was not fully prepared for the sudden rainfall and difficult weather conditions. Not carrying appropriate clothing, such as a jacket or umbrella, made certain parts of the trek more challenging and uncomfortable. This experience made me realize that effective planning goes beyond preparing for expected situations; it also involves anticipating possible challenges and being ready for them. These small oversights highlighted how important it is to begin any CAS experience with careful and thoughtful preparation.

Leaning Outcome 4 – Showing commitment a perseverance
During the trek to Bhavarkada Waterfalls, I demonstrated commitment and perseverance despite the physical and environmental challenges. The slippery trails, muddy paths, and unexpected rain made the journey difficult, and there were moments when I felt tired and uncomfortable. However, I remained determined to complete the trek and did not give up. I continued moving forward by staying focused and motivated, even when the conditions became more challenging. This experience showed me the importance of staying committed to a goal and pushing through difficulties. It also helped me understand that perseverance is essential in overcoming obstacles, both in physical activities and in everyday life.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

During the trek to Bhavarkada Waterfalls, I experienced the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Trekking through difficult terrain, especially in slippery and rainy conditions, required us to support and look out for one another. We communicated regularly, shared resources, and helped each other navigate challenging sections of the trail. At times, we encouraged one another to keep going, which made the experience more manageable and enjoyable. Working as a group not only ensured safety but also strengthened our bonds. This experience helped me understand how collaboration can make challenging tasks easier and more effective. It also improved my communication and teamwork skills, showing me the value of working together towards a common goal.
