As part of my CAS Creativity Experience, I volunteered for the Hindi Immersion Event for Grade 11 held on 10th September, 2025. My primary goal was to celebrate and convey the richness and importance of preserving Hindi as our national language, which has now lost its spark with the emerging Western culture. It was part of my Creativity component, since it allowed me to creatively convey the idea of Hindi as a prevalent language in our society and communicate its cultural crux through performing bollywood-themed dance with my peers.
LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through the Hindi Immersion Event, I was able to identify my strength in confidence and creativity, especially while performing in front of a large audience on the day of event. Dancing helped me express ideas and emotions beyond Hindi words, strengthening my ability to communicate through creative forms like dance. However, I also realized that memorizing choreography and synchronizing in a team dance under a strict timeline was challenging for me. This highlighted an area for growth, encouraging me to work on consistency, focus and discipline during rehearsals and early-ins for future events alike.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Although the Hindi Immersion Event was organized by my friends in-charge, I showed initiative by volunteering to be part of the performance and taking up the role of the choreographer. I actively participated in planning rehearsals, managing early-ins alongside academics and preparing dances along with my team. This experience taught me the importance of planning, responsibility and self-motivation in ensuring a successful CAS experience.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
The Hindi Immersion Event required weeks of practice and tons of preparation — from early-ins to extra practice at home, all while balancing loads of schoolwork. It was difficult to stay consistent at multiple moments throughout the timeline, but my hope for the final result kept me motivated throughout. The entire experience reminded me highly of why perseverance as a skill matters more than hard-work, since the determination to keep moving even when things get hard is what makes the final outcome even more rewarding. In the end, the final dance performance was a visual representation of all the commitment my team and I showed throughout the process.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
For me, the Hindi Immersion Event was a great reminder of how prevalent teamwork is in any creative process. Choosing the most appropriate and engaging songs, coordinating the dance choreography and ensuring each of our movements aligned with the original blueprint required proper communication and patience. Everyone in the team brought different strengths; some were quick learners, others helped come up with better choreography and some motivated the group when the nerves during the final performance took over. Working collaboratively taught me to listen actively, give constructive and critical feedback and open-mindedly accept other’s ideas. The performance ultimately succeeded because each member contributed uniquely, showing me how collective effort and individuality as a whole strengthens both the process and the final outcome.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
The primary idea behind participating in the Hindi Immersion Event was to remind myself and others that our national language was gradually dying in the fabric of the Western culture. I identified this as an issue with great significance and considered it prevalent to spread the idea that Hindi brought together the most ancient communities in India and will continue to do so in the future by shaping identities and the heritage. With this ideology in mind, I combined purpose with engagement and volunteered to dance for the audience. We made thoughtful choices about our performance by selecting songs that highlighted cultural value rather than promoting stereotypes and ensuring our presentation was respectful and entertaining for the audience. This experience made me more aware of how creative expression can influence cultural perception.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
While preparing for the performance, I had to consider the ethical responsibility of representing Hindi culture respectfully and with kindness. Our group and teachers made conscious choices to select songs and choreography that celebrated the Hindi culture without imposing stereotypes, misinterpreted traditions or inappropriate dance steps. This experience helped me understand that creative expression carries responsibility, especially when portraying cultural identity to a wide audience.
Overall Reflection
In the end, the Hindi Immersion was a meaningful and creative experience that allowed me to look at Hindi not as a mere subject in DP, but through the lens of a language that needed preservation. Through weeks of practice and collaboration with my peers, I learned how commitment and consistency shape the quality of a final outcome, while working together helped me appreciate the strengths each team-mate brought. Overall, this experience strengthened both my creative expression and my understanding of responsibility within a team and a cultural context.
