As part of my CAS Creativity journey, I had the opportunity to host the group song category in Kalakriti, a cultural event in my school where students showcase their talents in different art forms. Hosting was both exciting and intimidating for me because I have always been nervous about stage presence. Initially, I was apprehensive about speaking in front of an audience, but I decided to take up this challenge as a way to step outside my comfort zone and grow in confidence. The experience turned out to be both rewarding and enriching. Standing on stage required me to think on my feet, maintain composure, and ensure that the event flowed smoothly. I realized that hosting is not just about speaking into a microphone—it involves engaging the audience, coordinating with performers and teachers, and adapting to unexpected changes in real time. Even though I felt nervous at first, the encouragement from my peers and the positive energy of the event helped me build confidence and enjoy the process. Hosting Kalakriti gave me the opportunity to explore my strengths, address my areas of growth, and develop new skills. It also showed me the value of teamwork, as the success of the event depended on collaboration between hosts, participants, and organizers. Overall, this experience contributed meaningfully to my CAS journey by allowing me to grow personally and creatively while contributing to a community celebration of art and culture.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While hosting, I realized that one of my strengths lies in my ability to remain calm under pressure and manage transitions smoothly between performances. However, I also identified an area of growth—my stage presence and confidence while addressing a large audience. Although I improved during the event, I understood that with more practice, I can become a more engaging and confident speaker.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Hosting in front of an audience was a major challenge for me, as I have always feared stage presence. Taking up this responsibility allowed me to develop new skills such as clear communication, quick thinking, and audience engagement. I also learned to handle the pressure of being in the spotlight and the importance of preparation before going on stage. These skills will not only help me in future public speaking opportunities but also in academic and professional settings.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
The event was a team effort, and I learned how valuable collaboration is in making such programs successful. I had to coordinate with co-hosts, participants, and teachers to ensure the smooth execution of the group song category. Working collaboratively taught me the importance of communication, mutual support, and flexibility. Together, we were able to create an enjoyable experience for the performers and the audience.
Overall, hosting Kalakriti was a memorable experience that allowed me to face my fears, learn new skills, and grow as a communicator. It gave me confidence to take on responsibilities outside my comfort zone and helped me appreciate the role of teamwork in achieving success. This experience has motivated me to continue taking risks, practice public speaking, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth in my CAS journey and beyond.
