Learning Outcome 1 :- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Prior to the trek I thought it would be easy to do with only a little bit of difficulty, because I thought that the trek would be easy even if I am not physically fit. But the steep inclines and slippery paths called this into question and made me reconsider my body. As I continued to move, the terrain was not stable and I found it hard to keep my balance. The trek proved too difficult and dangerous for me, as due to my heavier weight, I could not find grip on one of the slippery sections, and I did not have the mental fortitude to try such a risky situation. I had already fallen multiple times, so I believed that I would get seriously injured if I try again, hence I rested mid-way until the others came back.
Learning Outcome 2 :- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
This hike was not moderate but very difficult, particularly because of the rainy season which made the paths more hazardous for both going up and down. It introduced me to a challenging situation that demanded perseverance, adaptability, flexibility and better body coordination, while dealing with physical discomfort. I also showed key soft skills like being aware of my surroundings, working in a team, adapting to change and being resilient. I had some moments of fear and uncertainty. In this instance, problem-solving and teamwork were key to solving the problems. I also learned about the value of cooperation and mutual support from accepting assistance from others.
Learning Outcome 4 :- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS Experiences
The trek was an arduous and challenging one, demanding a great deal of commitment and perseverance. I took the break halfway to the waterfall and I started to feel discouraged because I couldn’t go any further because of my body.
My friends’ encouragement and support were very important in keeping me enthusiastic on the way back. They knew how hard it was for me and they gave me the confidence to keep going one step at a time. As a result, I was able to complete the trek back.
Overall, the journey was a rewarding experience and a reminder of the value of perseverance in achieving success. When I encountered difficulties with determination in situations I hadn’t been in before, it helped build my mindset and gave me a lot of inspiration.
Learning Outcome 5 :- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
It was a whole group effort with the help of students, group leaders and staff. We supported each other to climb up steep slopes, cross muddy paths and water streams, and never judged each other’s pace or ability. This was my first time and it was a great experience to work with others. I knew that if I didn’t have teamwork and support from others, I wouldn’t have come as far as I have.
