The farewell for the Grade 12 students was a memorable occasion where the 11th graders helped make the occasion more engaging and fun. I was a part of the dance team, where we had prepared an immersive dance to create an enjoyable moment.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
In terms of my contribution to the farewell party for the Grade 12 students, I was part of a dance team that would perform at the event. Dancing is not something I would say I’m good at, so it was a challenge for me to learn and perform in front of an audience. The rehearsals for my performance took a lot of persistence and hard work, especially since I was taking up other responsibilities at the same time. However, I tried my best to learn and perform to the best of my abilities. This experience taught me to get out of my comfort zone and try something that seemed a bit hard for me at first.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
To prepare for the farewell performance, there was a need to practice consistently. Although there were other things happening at the same time, such as other assignments and academic work, it was essential to be present during rehearsals and actively participate in the preparations towards the performance. There were times when it became tedious, especially when repeating dance steps over and over to perfect coordination. However, continued practice kept me committed to the team and the performance.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Apart from this dance performance, our group also assisted in decorating for the farewell party. Again, this required cooperation and collaboration with others. During our dance rehearsals, we had to work together to ensure that our movements were in sync and that our performance would look cohesive. Similarly, in our efforts to assist in decorating, cooperation and collaboration ensured that our tasks were accomplished in an efficient manner. This experience taught us that teamwork is important in organizing a party and creating a memorable experience for others.
Overall, it was a valuable experience being part of the farewell preparations. Although it did take time and effort in the rehearsals and preparations for the actual event, it was fulfilling to be part of something that celebrated the Grade 12 students and marked another milestone in their journey in school. This experience taught me that at times, it is not always about winning but showing up and giving it my all.
