Anand Utsav was a heartfelt and meaningful CAS experience focused on expressing gratitude towards our school’s support staff, who play a vital role in maintaining the smooth functioning of the school environment. The event was carefully planned to make them feel appreciated and valued for their continuous efforts. It included creating handmade gratitude cards, decorating the venue with colorful and cheerful elements, and organizing a variety of fun games and creative activities such as sack race, tug of war, lemon and spoon race, and “try not to laugh.” The event beautifully combined activity and creativity, allowing us not only to engage with the staff but also to give back to them in a thoughtful and joyful manner. I actively participated in both the creative and organizational aspects of the event. From designing and preparing decorations to helping manage the games and interacting with the staff, I was involved throughout the process. The atmosphere during Anand Utsav was lively and full of positive energy, as both students and staff enjoyed the activities together, creating a strong sense of community and appreciation.
LOI 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While working on the decorations and planning the activities, I realized that creativity is one of my strengths. I enjoyed coming up with ideas to make the venue look vibrant and welcoming, as well as helping design games that would be fun and inclusive for everyone. However, managing multiple responsibilities at the same time—such as overseeing decorations, coordinating games, and interacting with participants—made me aware of areas where I can improve. In particular, I recognized the need to develop better time management and multitasking skills so that I can handle several tasks more efficiently without feeling overwhelmed.
LOI 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
I contributed actively to the planning and execution of Anand Utsav. This included brainstorming ideas for games, preparing the required materials, and organizing decorations to create a festive and welcoming environment. I also ensured that everything was ready before the event began so that there would be no delays or confusion. This planning process helped me understand the importance of preparation and attention to detail in organizing successful events. As a result, the event ran smoothly, and the staff were able to fully enjoy the experience.
LOI 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The event required continuous involvement over several hours, starting from the setup phase to the final activities. I remained actively engaged throughout, helping with decorations, managing the games, and participating alongside the staff. Even when tasks became tiring or repetitive, I stayed committed to ensuring that the event was enjoyable and well-organized. This demonstrated my perseverance and dedication to completing the activity successfully and making the experience memorable for everyone involved.
LOI 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork played a crucial role in the success of Anand Utsav. I worked closely with my peers to divide responsibilities, coordinate tasks, and support one another during the event. Whether it was decorating the venue, organizing games, or assisting participants, collaboration helped us manage everything efficiently. Participating in the games alongside the staff also helped create a friendly and inclusive environment. This experience reinforced the importance of cooperation, communication, and mutual support in achieving a common goal.
LOI 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Anand Utsav highlighted the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of individuals who are often overlooked. The support staff play a crucial role in our daily school life, yet they may not always receive the acknowledgment they deserve. By creating gratitude cards, organizing activities, and celebrating with them, we made a conscious effort to express our appreciation and respect. This experience helped me understand the ethical importance of gratitude, empathy, and kindness, and how small actions can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day.
Overall, Anand Utsav was a highly rewarding CAS experience that combined service, creativity, and active participation. It allowed me to develop important skills such as teamwork, organization, creativity, and perseverance, while also teaching me the value of gratitude and respect within a community. Seeing the smiles and happiness on the staff’s faces as they participated in the activities and received our appreciation made the experience truly fulfilling and memorable.
