As part of my CAS Creativity and Service experience, I volunteered at Agrasen School, where we spent time engaging with younger students through fun and interactive games. Our aim was to create an enjoyable learning environment while encouraging teamwork, good behaviour, and awareness of positive daily habits.
This experience combined creativity, as we designed and organised original games for the children, and service, as we dedicated our time and effort to supporting and guiding them in a meaningful way.
Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During this activity, I recognised strengths in communication, leadership, and adaptability. I was able to explain game instructions clearly using simple language and maintain the students’ attention through interactive methods. I showed patience while guiding them and ensured that everyone felt included.
However, I also identified areas for improvement. Managing a large group of energetic children required stronger classroom control and quicker decision-making. At times, I needed to improve my confidence in giving firm instructions and managing distractions. This experience helped me understand the importance of clarity, calmness, and adaptability when working with younger students.
Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One major challenge was maintaining discipline while keeping the activities fun and engaging. Some students became overly excited, and we had to quickly adjust our approach to regain their attention.
Through this, I developed better voice projection, time management, and leadership skills. I learned how to think quickly, give clear instructions, and use positive reinforcement to manage a dynamic group effectively. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt to unexpected situations.
Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The activity required continuous energy, patience, and focus. Despite moments of noise or fatigue, I remained committed to ensuring that every student was engaged and enjoying the session. I actively participated in organising the games, guiding the children, and supporting my peers throughout the activity.
My consistent effort throughout the session reflected my commitment to making the experience meaningful for the students.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Collaboration was essential to the success of this activity. My peers and I worked together to plan the games, divide responsibilities, and support one another during the session. We communicated effectively and adapted as a team when situations changed.
Working collaboratively allowed us to create a smooth and enjoyable experience for the children. I learned that teamwork, cooperation, and shared responsibility lead to better outcomes and stronger impact.
Learning Outcome 6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Although this was a local service activity, it connects to broader global themes such as quality education, child well-being, and community development. Supporting young students in developing good habits and teamwork skills contributes to long-term positive growth.
By volunteering at Agrasen School, I engaged with the idea that small, community-based actions can support larger global goals related to inclusive and value-based education.
Conclusion
Volunteering at Agrasen School was a rewarding experience that allowed me to combine creativity with service. Designing interactive games helped develop my creativity, while guiding and supporting the children strengthened my leadership, patience, and empathy.
This experience reinforced the importance of community engagement and showed me how meaningful impact can be created through simple, thoughtful actions. It has encouraged me to continue participating in service-oriented initiatives in the future.
