Introduction: On 17 July, I took part in a school badminton tournament organized by the Grade 12 students. I played both singles and doubles matches. I lost my singles match, which was disappointing, but I later won the doubles match and received a medal along with participation certificates. This experience became more than just a sports event for me. It taught me how to work with others, and grow from both success and failure.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan: Before the tournament, I made sure I practiced regularly and focused on improving my shots and stamina. I also planned how I would manage my time during the matches so that I stayed calm and focused. For the doubles match, my partner and I talked about basic strategies and how we would communicate during the game. Because of this preparation, I felt more confident on the court and was able to perform better, especially during the doubles match.
LO4: Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experiences: Losing my singles match was frustrating, and for a moment I felt demotivated. However, I reminded myself that giving up would not help me improve. I stayed committed to the tournament and pushed myself to do better in the doubles match. This experience showed me that setbacks are part of learning and that perseverance can lead to positive outcomes.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively : Playing doubles made me realize how important teamwork is. My partner and I had to trust each other, communicate clearly, and stay supportive throughout the match. Even when we made mistakes, we encouraged each other instead of blaming one another. Winning the doubles match helped me understand that working together and supporting each other can lead to better results than working alone.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance :This tournament helped me understand the importance of physical activity and mental well-being. In today’s world, many people struggle with health issues due to stress and lack of exercise. By participating in sports, I contributed to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. This experience connects to the global goal of ensuring good health and well-being for everyone.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions: Throughout the tournament, I followed the rules and respected my opponents, teammates, and officials. I accepted both winning and losing with a positive attitude and showed sportsmanship by congratulating others. This experience helped me understand that ethical behavior and respect are just as important as winning in any competitive situation.
Conclusion: Overall, this badminton tournament was a valuable CAS experience for me. It helped me grow not only as a player but also as a person. I learned how to prepare, stay committed, work with others, and act ethically, even under pressure. Most importantly, I learned that both winning and losing can teach important life lessons.
