Children’s Day Carnival – Creativity + Service

The Children’s Day Carnival was a meaningful CAS experience where I worked with two of my peers to design and run a fun educational game for government school students. Our activity was based on one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of spreading awareness while making the experience enjoyable and interactive for the students.

LOI 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
One challenge was communicating the game and its concept clearly to younger students. We had to simplify our explanations and make sure they understood the questions and activities. Through this process, I improved my communication skills and learned how to interact more effectively with younger participants.

LOI 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before the event, my peers and I planned a game that would both engage the students and help them learn about an SDG. We designed the activity, prepared questions, and thought about how we would explain the concept in a simple and fun way. Planning the game beforehand helped ensure that our stall ran smoothly during the carnival.

LOI 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
This activity required strong teamwork. My two peers and I worked together to design the game, manage the stall, and interact with the students. During the event, we divided responsibilities such as explaining the rules, asking questions, and giving out tokens. Working collaboratively helped us handle many students efficiently and made the activity more organized.

LOI 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Our game focused on one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which address important global issues such as education, equality, and sustainability. By explaining the concept through a fun activity, we helped the students learn about an important global topic in an engaging way. This allowed us to spread awareness about issues that affect communities around the world.

Overall, the Children’s Day Carnival was a rewarding CAS experience. It allowed me to combine creativity and service while interacting with government school students and spreading awareness about an SDG. Seeing the students actively participate and use the tokens they earned to buy stationery made the experience both fun and meaningful.
