Volunteering at the University Fair was a valuable CAS experience where I helped manage registrations and assisted both students and university representatives throughout the day. It allowed me to interact with many people and understand how large events are organized while developing important personal and collaborative skills.
LOI 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While working at the registration desk, I realized that one of my strengths is communicating with people and helping them feel comfortable. I guided students through the registration process and answered their questions. However, when many students arrived at the same time, I realized I needed to improve my ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and stay organized under pressure.
LOI 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Handling registrations during busy periods was challenging because many students were arriving at once. I had to work quickly and accurately to avoid delays. Later in the day, I also assisted school students attending the fair and helped university representatives with anything they needed, which helped me develop adaptability and problem-solving skills.
LOI 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Even after the registration process was completed, I continued helping throughout the event. I assisted representatives and guided students around the fair whenever needed. Staying involved for the entire event showed my commitment and willingness to support wherever help was required.
LOI 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The event required teamwork between student volunteers and organizers. We divided responsibilities such as registrations, guiding students, and supporting representatives. By communicating and working together, we were able to manage the event smoothly and ensure that students had a positive experience.
Overall, volunteering at the University Fair helped me develop communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. It was a meaningful experience where I contributed to helping students explore different university opportunities while also learning how to manage responsibilities during a large event.
