Introduction: Our school organized a cross country run as a physical activity for students. The run took place in three parts: first a 3 km run, then a 5 km run, and finally another 3 km run. I ran with my friends during this event. The run was moderately difficult because of the long distance and the high heat. However, I managed to complete it by maintaining a steady and slow pace throughout the run. This activity tested my endurance, focus, and determination.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: During the cross country run, I realized that I have good mental focus and endurance when it comes to long-distance running. Even when I felt tired, I was able to keep moving at a steady pace without stopping. At the same time, I also understood that my stamina could still improve because the heat and distance made the run challenging. This experience helped me understand both my strengths and the areas where I can improve in physical fitness.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: The long distance and the hot weather made the run challenging. It required both physical and mental effort to continue running for such a long time. I learned how to manage my energy by running at a constant pace instead of starting too fast. This helped me finish the race without getting too tired early. Through this challenge, I improved my endurance and learned how to control my pace during long runs.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience: Although the event was organized by the school, I still had to prepare myself for it. Before the run, I made sure I was ready by getting proper rest and preparing mentally for the distance. I also thought about the strategy I would use, which was to run slowly but consistently. Planning how to approach the run helped me complete the activity more effectively.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: Completing the entire cross country run required commitment and perseverance. There were moments when the heat and distance made it feel difficult to continue. However, I stayed focused on finishing the run and did not give up. I kept moving forward with the same pace until the end. This showed me the importance of perseverance in physical activities.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively: Running with my friends made the experience more enjoyable and motivating. We encouraged each other during the run and tried to keep each other going when someone started feeling tired. Even though running is an individual activity, having friends around created a sense of teamwork and support. It helped all of us stay motivated and complete the run together.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions: During the run, it was important to follow the rules and maintain fair participation. Everyone had to complete the same distance and follow the same route. I made sure to run honestly without trying to take shortcuts or skip parts of the track. Respecting the rules and other participants made the event fair for everyone.
Conclusion: The cross country run was a challenging but rewarding activity. It helped me understand my physical abilities and taught me how to manage my energy during long-distance running. I also learned the importance of perseverance, planning, teamwork, and fair participation. Overall, the activity was a valuable experience that helped me grow both physically and mentally.
