Donation Drive – Project

Experience Title : The project Lumina
Project Overview : This CAS Project involves organizing a Donation drive to collect and distribute essential items such as clothes, food, books, and stationery to underprivileged individuals or communities. The drive aims to encourage students and families to contribute unused or gently used items and promote a culture of giving, reuse, and social responsibility.
The project is conducted by targeting students from Grades 3 to 7, Messaging parents group chat to expand outreach by involving parents and the wider school community. We will be doing a bake sale to raise funds to buy stationery and hygiene products. This collective approach strengthens both community engagement and the overall impact of the initiative .

Key Activities of the Donation Drive :
Planning & Organizing: Creating a collection system, setting donation goals, gaining approvals from school authorities, and deciding on distribution logistics.
Promotion: Designing posters, making class announcements.
Collection & Management: Gathering donated items, sorting them by category (e.g., food, clothes, books), ensuring quality, and packing them for delivery.
Distribution: Handing over the collected items to unprivileged families ( slum area ) and giving necessary things like stationary to government schools. Government schools often lack adequate resources like stationery, books, and classroom materials.

The goals and purpose of the project was : To collect and redistribute essential resources to individuals or families in need. To raise awareness among students and parents about the importance of community service and sustainable giving. To promote the value of reusing gently-used items rather than discarding them. To build empathy and leadership skills by actively contributing to a cause that improves the lives of others. To collaborate across school groups (e.g., enrichment ) and improve teamwork and project management skills.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively. :
For our CAS project, my friends and I organized a donation drive where we distributed food, clothes, toys, and also provided books and stationery to a government school. This experience helped me understand the importance of empathy and kindness. Working as a team helped me build collaboration skills. We divided tasks, communicated effectively, and supported each other throughout the project. I learned to respect different ideas and work together towards a common goal. This experience showed me that teamwork creates a bigger impact than working alone .
Through this service, we contributed to Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, and promoted responsible sharing, supporting Decent Work and Economic Growth and Life on Land .

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance. :
Through our donation drive, my friends and I engaged with the global issue of lack of access to basic resources for underprivileged people. By distributing food, clothes, toys, and educational materials, and visiting a government school, I understood how this issue affects people’s daily lives and opportunities. This experience made me more aware of social inequalities and showed me that even small actions can create a positive impact .

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions. :
During our donation drive, I became more aware of the ethical side of my actions and decisions. While collecting and distributing items like food, clothes, toys, and educational materials, I understood the importance of being fair, respectful, and responsible. We made sure that the items we donated were useful, in good condition, and given to people who truly needed them.

I also learned to treat everyone with dignity while interacting with underprivileged families and students. This experience made me think about my responsibility towards society and how my choices can positively or negatively affect others. Through this project, I understood that helping others is not just about giving, but about doing it in a thoughtful and respectful way. Our work supported Quality Education and Good Health and Well-being, while also promoting responsible use of resources, linking to Decent Work and Economic Growth and Life on Land.
