I participated in the Freshers’ Party organized for the Grade 11 students as part of my CAS Activity experience. My team and I performed a dance routine that we choreographed entirely on our own. We worked together to create the routine, practiced regularly, and performed it in front of an audience. I selected this experience because I enjoy dancing and performing, and I wanted to challenge myself creatively while contributing to an enjoyable and memorable event.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the main challenges was creating an entire dance routine ourselves and making sure that all the movements were coordinated. We had to learn and remember the choreography while also improving our synchronization and stage presence. Practicing repeatedly required patience, discipline, and time management. Performing in front of an audience also challenged me to overcome nervousness and become more confident. Through this experience, I developed my confidence, creativity, time management, and performance skills.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning was an important part of preparing for the performance. My team and I discussed ideas for the choreography, selected suitable music, arranged the sequence of movements, and practiced the routine together. We had to manage our time effectively so that we could complete and refine the choreography before the event. Taking responsibility for different parts of the preparation helped me understand how proper planning and preparation contribute to a successful performance.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively
The performance depended heavily on teamwork. Since we choreographed the routine ourselves, everyone contributed ideas and worked together to create the final performance. We had to listen to each other’s suggestions, make decisions together, and help one another improve. During rehearsals, we gave each other feedback and worked on our synchronization. This experience showed me that collaboration can combine different ideas and strengths to create a better outcome than working individually.
Overall, participating in the Freshers’ Party was a valuable CAS Activity experience. It allowed me to pursue my interest in dance while challenging myself to perform in front of an audience. I developed greater confidence, creativity, time management, and teamwork skills throughout the process. Most importantly, I learned that a successful performance requires not only individual effort but also effective communication, planning, and collaboration.
