As part of the Freshers’ event held at Fountainhead School on 25th June 2026, I participated in the Decor Team along with my classmates. The purpose of the event was to welcome the new students and create a positive and engaging environment for them as they began their journey at the school. Our responsibility was to decorate the venue and make it look inviting for the freshers. This experience gave me an opportunity to contribute creatively to a school event while working with my peers towards a common goal.
As a member of the Decor Team, I participated in brainstorming ideas, planning the decorations, arranging materials, and setting up the venue before the event began. We had to coordinate with one another to decide how to arrange the decorations and ensure that everything was ready on time. Although decorating may seem like a simple task, it required creativity, communication, organization, and cooperation to bring our ideas together and create the desired atmosphere for the event.
LO1: Identify own strengths and areas for growth
Through this experience, I was able to recognize my strengths in creativity and my ability to contribute ideas when working in a group. Decorating the venue allowed me to think about how different elements could be arranged to make the space more welcoming. At the same time, I realized that I could continue improving my organizational and communication skills, especially when multiple people have different ideas about how something should be done. This experience helped me understand the importance of listening to others and finding ways to combine individual ideas into a shared outcome.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the challenges of being part of the Decor Team was ensuring that the venue was properly decorated within the time available. We had to work efficiently, coordinate our efforts, and make decisions about the placement of decorations. This required us to adapt our ideas according to the available materials and time. Through this experience, I developed better coordination and problem-solving skills and learned that even creative tasks require planning and practical decision-making.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Although the Freshers’ event was organized by the school, our team had to plan and carry out the decoration process within our assigned responsibilities. We contributed ideas, discussed possible arrangements, and organized the materials required to decorate the venue. We also had to consider how to make the space look welcoming while ensuring that the decorations were completed before the event started. This experience helped me understand that successful planning involves breaking a larger task into smaller responsibilities and working systematically to achieve the final result.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Preparing the venue required us to remain focused and committed until the decorations were completed. We had to pay attention to details and ensure that the space was ready for the arrival of the new students. Even when certain arrangements needed adjustments, we continued working towards completing the setup. This taught me that commitment is important when contributing to a group project, as every individual’s effort plays a role in achieving the overall goal.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork was an important part of this experience because decorating the venue involved several people contributing towards the same objective. We shared ideas, divided responsibilities, and helped one another complete the arrangements. Working together allowed us to combine different perspectives and complete the setup more efficiently than we could have individually. This experience helped me recognize the importance of communication, cooperation, and being open to other people’s suggestions when working in a team.
Overall Reflection
Overall, being part of the Freshers’ Event Decor Team was a valuable experience that allowed me to contribute to my school community in a creative way. It helped me develop my teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills while giving me an opportunity to take responsibility for preparing the venue. I also learned that creating a welcoming environment involves more than just decorating a space. It requires planning, attention to detail, and collaboration. Most importantly, this experience reminded me that even behind-the-scenes contributions can play an important role in making a school event enjoyable and memorable for others.
