Intoduction

As a part of my CAS project, I helped organise a Freshers Fiesta for the incoming Grade 11 students. I was involved in different aspects of the event, including decorations, dance choreography, backstage management, attendance, and coordination with teachers and other organisers. I often came early to help complete the decorations and make sure that tasks were finished on time. This experience gave me the opportunity to take responsibility for a large event while working with a team to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for the new students.

LO1: Identify own strengths and devlop areas for growth

Through this experience, I recognised that one of my strengths is organisation and responsibility. I was able to keep track of tasks, attendance, decorations, and backstage requirements. However, I also realised that I need to improve my time management and delegation skills, as handling several responsibilities at once could sometimes be challenging. This experience helped me understand how I can become more organised and confident when managing multiple tasks.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning the Freshers Fiesta required preparation and coordination. I helped organise the decorations, plan dance choreography, coordinate rehearsals, and prepare for backstage management. Coming early allowed me to check the progress of the decorations and ensure that tasks were being completed according to the schedule. I also coordinated with teachers and other organisers to make sure everyone understood their responsibilities. This taught me that successful events require detailed planning, preparation, and regular communication.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Teamwork was an important part of organising the Freshers Fiesta. I worked with other students, teachers, performers, and organisers to complete different responsibilities. We divided tasks such as decoration, choreography, attendance, and backstage management among ourselves. When problems occurred, we communicated with each other and worked together to find solutions. This experience showed me that collaboration makes managing a large event more organised and allows different people to contribute their individual strengths.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While organising the event, I understood the importance of being responsible, fair, and respectful towards everyone involved. Taking attendance required accuracy and honesty, while coordinating with students and teachers required me to respect everyone’s responsibilities and time. During the event, I also had to make decisions that considered the safety and comfort of the performers and new students. This taught me that even small decisions during an event can affect other people, so they should be made responsibly.

Conclusion

Overall, organising the Freshers Fiesta was a valuable CAS experience that helped me develop my organisational, communication, and teamwork skills. I learned how much preparation is required to successfully manage an event and how important it is to work collaboratively. The experience also helped me recognise areas where I can improve, particularly in managing multiple responsibilities and delegating tasks. Most importantly, seeing the event come together after all the preparation made me feel that my efforts had contributed to creating a positive and welcoming experience for the new Grade 11 students.
