Introduction.
As part of my CAS Project, I organised a Freshers Party for the Grade 11 students. I was involved in planning the event, coordinating with my team, and making sure the activities and arrangements were properly managed. Since it was a project that required preparation and teamwork over time, it allowed me to take responsibility and experience what it is like to organise an event for a large group of students. Overall, it was a fun but challenging experience that helped me develop my leadership, communication, creativity, and organisational skills.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Organizing the Freshers Party helped me understand some of my strengths as well as the areas I need to improve. I realized that I am good at coming up with ideas, communicating with others, and taking responsibility when something needs to be done. At the same time, I noticed that managing several tasks at once can sometimes be difficult for me, especially when there are last-minute changes. This experience helped me become more organized and taught me to manage my time and responsibilities better.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the main challenges was making sure that different parts of the event were organized properly and that everyone knew their responsibilities. There were also unexpected situations and changes that had to be dealt with during the planning process. Handling these situations helped me develop new skills, especially problem-solving, decision-making, and communication. I became more comfortable dealing with problems instead of getting stressed when something did not go according to the original plan.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
LO3 was one of the strongest connections to this project because I was involved in initiating and planning the Freshers Party. I helped decide what activities and arrangements would be included and worked with others to organize the different parts of the event. We had to plan the schedule, divide responsibilities, and make sure everything was ready before the actual day. This taught me that a successful event requires proper preparation and that even small details need to be considered beforehand.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Organizing the Freshers Party required commitment because the work did not only happen on the day of the event. There was preparation, coordination, and checking that had to be done beforehand. Even when I became tired or faced problems during the planning process, I continued working on my responsibilities and made sure they were completed. This experience showed me that completing a project successfully requires consistency and perseverance rather than only enthusiasm at the beginning.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork was an important part of organizing the Freshers Party. I worked with other students and we divided different responsibilities between ourselves. We had to communicate regularly, share ideas, and help each other whenever someone faced a problem. I realized that working as a team made the planning process easier because everyone could contribute their own ideas and skills. It also taught me that good communication is important when working towards a common goal.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
While organizing the event, I understood that I had to make responsible choices because the event was being organized for other students. I considered whether the activities would be appropriate, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. I also understood the importance of making the event inclusive so that students did not feel left out. This made me realize that organizing an event is not only about making it fun but also about taking responsibility for the experience and well-being of the people attending.
Conclusion
Overall, organizing the Freshers Party was a valuable CAS Project because it gave me the opportunity to take responsibility for something from the planning stage to the final event. I developed my organization, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while also becoming more aware of my own strengths and areas for improvement. The experience taught me that successful projects require planning, commitment, collaboration, and responsible decision-making. It was a challenging but enjoyable experience, and I feel more confident about taking responsibility for similar projects in the future.
