FSMUN 12.0 – Creativity

As part of my CAS creativity, I took part in FSMUN 12.0 as a member of the International Press team. The event was conducted over two days and involved attending committee sessions, covering debates through photography, and participating in the official press conference.

Before this event, I had only participated in 1-2 Model United Nations. The structure of debates, formal procedures, and committee dynamics were still new to me. However, I decided to take part in FSMUN 12.0 to step out of my comfort zone, even though I had limited knowledge of how an MUN functions. Since I enjoy photography, I registered for International Press as I believed it would allow me to explore a more professional side of photography while being part of an event I had never experienced before. This helped me combine a familiar interest with a new and challenging environment.

This experience was very different from the kind of photography I usually do. Instead of taking planned or casual photographs, I had to capture real-time moments without disrupting proceedings. I needed to stay attentive throughout long committee sessions and anticipate important interactions. Over the two days, I became more confident in moving around committees, positioning myself appropriately, and capturing meaningful moments that reflected the seriousness of the discussions.

CAS Learning Outcomes

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this experience, I identified observation, adaptability, and attention to detail as key strengths. These helped me capture effective photographs and record accurate presidential statements during committee sessions. I also realized that I am able to stay focused in formal settings even when I am unfamiliar with the environment. However, I identified areas for growth such as confidence in initiating conversations, understanding committee procedures more deeply, and improving my questioning skills. Participating in FSMUN helped me become more aware of these areas and motivated me to continue developing them.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experiences
FSMUN required consistent effort across both days. Committee sessions were long and required continuous focus to ensure that important moments were not missed. Despite feeling tired at times, I remained committed to my role in the International Press team and continued contributing throughout the event. Attending sessions, taking photographs, and recording statements until the end of the conference demonstrated perseverance and responsibility toward my CAS commitment.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
On the second day, I was part of the press conference, where delegates from different committees came together to respond to questions from the International Press. This experience required strong collaboration and communication within the press team. I worked with others to ask relevant questions, manage time, and ensure smooth coordination. During the press conference, I asked questions to delegates, captured photographs, and took presidential statements from various committees. This experience helped me develop confidence in professional communication and showed me how collaboration allows for effective information gathering and coverage of large events.

Reflection

Overall, participating in FSMUN 12.0 was a valuable and enriching CAS experience. It allowed me to step out of my comfort zone while developing my interest in photography in a professional and structured setting. Being part of the press conference further strengthened my confidence and communication skills. The two-day event challenged me to remain committed, work collaboratively, and adapt quickly, making it a meaningful experience that contributed to my personal and creative growth.
