For this CAS experience, I was part of the Dance Committee for the Grade 12 Farewell event as a Grade 11 student. The farewell event was organized to celebrate the graduating batch and give them a memorable send-off. As part of the dance committee, I participated in the group performance that was prepared for the event. This involved attending practice sessions, learning the choreography, and performing as part of the final presentation during the farewell.
LO3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Although I did not choreograph the dance or select the music, planning was still an important part of the process. As a group, we had to organize practice sessions, ensure everyone knew the steps, and think about formations and timing during rehearsals. Being part of these preparations helped me understand how much coordination and effort is required to prepare a performance for a large event.
LO4: Show Commitment and Perseverance
Preparing for the farewell performance required consistent practice and dedication. Learning the choreography and making sure everyone was synchronized took time and effort. There were moments when certain steps were difficult to perfect, and balancing practice with academic responsibilities was sometimes challenging. However, I stayed committed to attending rehearsals and improving my performance. This experience helped me understand the importance of perseverance and teamwork when preparing for a group performance.
LO6: Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Dance is a form of cultural expression that brings people together and creates a sense of unity within a community. By performing at the farewell event, I contributed to an activity that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and appreciation for others. Events like these help strengthen community bonds and create shared experiences that are meaningful for students.
LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
During rehearsals and the performance, it was important to be respectful and responsible as part of the group. This meant attending practices regularly, supporting other members, and ensuring that everyone felt included and comfortable. I also had to be mindful of presenting the performance in a way that was appropriate for a school setting. This experience helped me understand the importance of respect, responsibility, and cooperation when working in a team.
Throughout this experience, I also developed the learner profile of being a Communicator. Performing in a group required clear communication during rehearsals, especially when coordinating movements, formations, and timing. I had to listen carefully to instructions, observe others during practice, and adjust my movements so that the performance was synchronized. This experience helped me understand how important communication is in collaborative activities.
Overall, being part of the Dance Committee for the Grade 12 Farewell event was a meaningful CAS experience. It allowed me to contribute to a special moment for the graduating students while developing my commitment, teamwork, and performance skills. This experience also helped me appreciate how collaborative efforts can create memorable experiences for a community.
