This year, I participated in badminton as part of the HDP program to stay active and improve my fitness. Choosing badminton allowed me to develop discipline and maintain a healthy balance alongside my academic responsibilities.
Throughout the year, I attended regular practice slots of badminton where I worked on footwork, stamina, and shot accuracy. At the beginning, I struggled to maintain endurance during long rallies and often lost precision when tired. However, with consistent practice, I noticed gradual improvement in my coordination, reflexes, and overall performance. Seeing this progress motivated me to remain committed and push myself further.
Badminton also taught me important life skills beyond physical fitness. I learned discipline by attending sessions regularly and putting in effort even when I felt tired. Losing matches or making mistakes initially felt discouraging, but over time I began to view these moments as opportunities to reflect and improve. Playing doubles matches helped me develop teamwork and communication.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through badminton, I recognized strengths such as agility and quick reflexes while identifying areas like stamina and shot consistency that needed improvement. Setting small goals helped me track progress and build confidence over time.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Maintaining endurance and accuracy during long games was challenging at first. Through regular practice and drills, I improved my stamina, coordination, and control. Learning new techniques such as drop shots and smashes expanded my skill set.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Participating in badminton throughout the year required dedication and time management. Even during busy academic slots, I stayed committed to practice, which strengthened my discipline and perseverance.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Playing doubles and practicing with my teammates required communication, trust, and coordination. Supporting teammates and learning from others showed me how collaboration enhances both performance and enjoyment.
