Aryan, August 2025

Type of CAS: Activity
Location: Bhavar Kada Waterfalls, Dang

Participating in the one-day trek to Bhavar Kada Waterfalls in Dang was an exciting and challenging experience that pushed me both physically and mentally. The trip was organized by our school as part of our CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program. It gave me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and test my endurance while enjoying the beauty of nature. The trek took place during the monsoon season, which made the entire journey more adventurous but also significantly more difficult due to slippery rocks, muddy trails, and flowing streams along the path.

At the beginning of the trek, my friends and I were filled with enthusiasm and energy. The forested surroundings, fresh air, and scenic views created a motivating atmosphere for everyone in the group. However, as the trek continued, the terrain became more challenging and physically demanding. Walking for several hours through uneven trails and steep slopes tested my stamina and determination. Despite these challenges, the experience helped me achieve several CAS learning outcomes and allowed me to reflect on my abilities, teamwork, and perseverance.

Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Before the trek, I believed that I was physically prepared to complete the journey without much difficulty. I regularly participate in sports and physical activities, so I assumed my endurance would be sufficient. However, the trek proved to be more demanding than I had expected. The muddy trails and steep inclines required strong balance, coordination, and stamina.

As the journey progressed, I realized that while I had good determination and a positive mindset, my endurance and leg strength could still be improved. There were moments when I felt tired and struggled to maintain my pace. These moments made me reflect on my physical abilities and recognize areas where I could improve, such as building greater stamina and maintaining better balance on uneven terrain.

At the same time, I discovered one of my strengths: the ability to stay calm and motivated even when situations became difficult. This realization helped me understand that personal growth comes from recognizing both strengths and weaknesses and working toward improving them.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

The trek itself was a significant challenge because of the rainy conditions and rugged terrain. Walking through muddy paths and crossing small streams required careful planning of each step. I had to constantly focus on maintaining my balance and finding stable rocks or tree branches for support.

Through this experience, I developed new practical skills related to trekking and outdoor activities. I learned how to maintain stability on slippery surfaces, how to move carefully on steep slopes, and how to conserve energy during long physical activities. Additionally, I improved my problem-solving skills as I had to decide the safest way to cross obstacles along the trail.

Beyond physical skills, the trek also strengthened important life skills such as adaptability and resilience. Whenever I felt tired or uncertain about the path ahead, I reminded myself to stay focused and keep moving forward. Overcoming these small challenges during the trek helped me build confidence in my ability to face difficult situations.

Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Completing the trek required strong commitment and perseverance. After reaching the waterfall and resting for a short time, we realized that we still had to complete the return journey to our starting point. By that time, many of us were already tired from walking for several hours.

There were moments during the return trek when I felt exhausted and wanted to stop for longer breaks. However, I reminded myself that finishing the trek was my goal. By maintaining a determined mindset and pacing myself carefully, I was able to continue moving forward.

This experience taught me the importance of perseverance. Even when situations become physically or mentally challenging, commitment and determination can help us achieve our goals. Reaching the base village at the end of the trek gave me a strong sense of accomplishment and pride.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Teamwork played a crucial role in the success of the trek. Throughout the journey, students helped one another navigate difficult sections of the trail. Sometimes we supported each other while climbing steep rocks or crossing streams. Encouraging words from friends also helped keep everyone motivated when the trek became tiring.

Working together made the experience more enjoyable and less stressful. It reminded me that collaboration can make challenging tasks easier and more manageable. Everyone moved at different speeds, but by supporting each other we ensured that no one felt left behind.

This experience helped me understand the true value of teamwork and cooperation. Achieving a shared goal becomes much easier when people work together and support one another.

Conclusion

Overall, the trek to Bhavar Kada Waterfalls was an unforgettable CAS experience that challenged me physically and mentally. It allowed me to explore nature while developing important life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, resilience, and adaptability. The journey taught me that stepping outside my comfort zone can lead to valuable learning experiences and personal growth.

This adventure will always remain a memorable moment in my CAS journey, reminding me that challenges are opportunities to learn more about myself and strengthen my abilities.
