I joined the Hindi Immersion Event in 2025-26, and I found myself in a dramatic performance where all the dialogues were in Hindi. I took up the role of an elderly man a character who strongly believes in respecting and conserving their native tongue in this increasingly globalized world. I prepared for this drama by memorizing my dialogues, studying the character’s personality and attitude, and practicing to speak like them to bring authenticity to the performance. I practiced this drama with other members of the group to effectively convey the message, and acting in front of the audience gave me confidence while allowing me to express my creativity.
Learning Outcomes Achieved
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I realized during this experience that I can express my emotions and speak dialogues in front of an audience with confidence. I could effectively convey the message of an elderly man to the audience through body language and tone of voice. I realized I still need to improve in terms of pronunciation and fluency of dialogues in Hindi. I realized I still have to improve in this respect, but I feel encouraged to improve my communication skills.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and new skills developed
I had to improve my pronunciation, express my emotions, and improve my memorization skills while acting in Hindi dialogues. I developed confidence in speaking, fluency in speaking, and acting skills while portraying the character of an elderly man. I had to adjust my tone of voice, body movements, and other aspects to portray the character, and I developed greater speaking skills, fluency, and acting skills.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Preparation for the drama performance involved planning and organisation. This included my own rehearsal, practice of my dialogues, and making sure the changeover between scenes was smooth, with my team and I taking charge of my role to ensure the overall performance conveyed the message on the need to preserve the Hindi language.
LO4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
Learning my lines and becoming my character took time and commitment, especially with my academic workload to contend with. However, my perseverance allowed me to deliver my part well in the final show.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively
The success of a play depended on effective collaboration among actors. I worked effectively with my fellow actors to deliver a great performance. This experience taught me that effective collaboration is essential for a great performance.
Conclusion
My experience in the Hindi immersion drama was a great experience in my Creativity CAS. The experience helped me improve my communication skills, creativity, and self-confidence. Playing a role that celebrated the preservation of the Hindi language helped me appreciate the significance of language in shaping culture and heritage. The experience was out of my comfort zone, and I learned a lot from it.
