Old Age Home Visit- CAS- Project

For the initiation of a CAS experience I initiated the old age visits. The visits done twice in order to interact with the residents and make this experience a memorable one.

LO1: Before the visit, I was unsure about how easily I would be able to connect with people from a completely different generation. However, through conversations and activities, I realised that I am able to communicate with empathy and make others feel comfortable. At the same time, I recognised that I can continue developing my confidence by taking greater initiative in leading interactions and activities.

LO2: Stepping into an unfamiliar environment and interacting with elderly residents whom I had never met before was initially challenging. I learned how to communicate more patiently, listen attentively, and adapt my approach to different individuals. These experiences strengthened my interpersonal skills and taught me that meaningful service begins with understanding and respect.

LO3: Planning the visit required our team to coordinate with the old age home, organise activities, and distribute responsibilities effectively. Being involved in the preparation helped me understand that successful service projects require careful organisation, teamwork, and thoughtful planning long before the actual event takes place.

LO4: Throughout the visit, I remained actively engaged with the residents by participating in conversations and activities. Although some interactions required patience and persistence, I stayed committed to ensuring that every resident felt included and appreciated. This experience showed me the importance of maintaining enthusiasm and dedication while serving others.

LO5: The success of our visit depended on effective teamwork. Every member contributed by sharing responsibilities, supporting one another, and working together to create a welcoming environment for the residents. This experience reinforced the importance of communication, cooperation, and mutual respect when working towards a common goal.

LO6: The visit made me more aware of the growing issue of loneliness and social isolation among older adults. Spending time with the residents showed me that small acts of kindness, genuine conversations, and human connection can positively impact someone’s emotional well-being. It reinforced the importance of building inclusive and compassionate communities.

LO7: This project reminded me that service is not about completing a task but about respecting the dignity of every individual. By listening carefully, treating each resident with kindness, and valuing their life experiences, I understood the ethical responsibility of serving others with empathy, humility, and genuine care.
