SIS Interschool Music Competition (Creativity)

Introduction: Our grade 11 band got the chance to represent our school at the Singapore International School Mumbai Conzert Interschool Music Competition. It was a big event where different schools came to perform and compete. Being part of the band was both exciting and challenging. We practiced for weeks to make sure our performance was strong and well-coordinated. The experience helped me improve my musical skills, gain confidence, and understand the importance of teamwork and discipline in creative activities.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: Through this experience, I realized that one of my strengths is staying calm and focused during performances. I was able to control my nerves on stage and perform confidently in front of a large audience. However, I also noticed that I needed to work more on coordination with my bandmates and timing during transitions in the song. I learned that performing as part of a group requires listening carefully to others and not just focusing on your own part. This helped me identify how I can improve as a team musician.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: Preparing for the competition was not easy. We faced many challenges like matching everyone’s rhythm, managing sound levels, and making sure the performance looked and sounded professional. There were times when things didn’t go well during practice, and we had to start over. These challenges helped me develop patience, better listening skills, and stage confidence. I also learned how to adapt quickly if something went wrong during rehearsal or the actual performance.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: We practiced regularly for several weeks, sometimes after school, to perfect our performance. Even when we were tired or busy with other work, we made sure to show up and give our best. There were times when it felt repetitive, but we kept going because we wanted to represent our school well. This experience taught me the value of commitment and how perseverance can lead to improvement and success.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively: Being in a band taught me the real meaning of teamwork. Every member had a different role, and the performance only worked when all of us were in sync. We had to communicate clearly, adjust to each other’s pace, and trust one another. Working together built a strong sense of unity and support. I learned that collaboration in creative work is just as important as individual talent.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions: As we represented our school, we made sure to maintain professionalism and respect for other teams. We supported other performers and followed all event rules honestly. We also avoided using any pre-recorded tracks or shortcuts, focusing only on our live performance. This made me realize the importance of integrity and fair play in competitions. Respecting others and performing honestly made the experience feel much more meaningful.

Conclusion: The Conzert Interschool Music Competition was an unforgettable creative journey that helped me grow as both a musician and a person. I improved my musical and teamwork skills, learned to stay committed, and understood the ethics behind representing a school in a public event. Performing on such a big stage gave me confidence and showed me how creativity can bring people together and inspire growth.
