Kalakriti (Creativity)

Kalakriti was a school event that featured a variety of artistic performances and competitions, including mime dramas. As a volunteer, I contributed to the smooth flow of the programme by introducing the hosts and participating teams using a prepared script. Although my role was brief, it required preparation, coordination with the organisers, and clear communication to ensure the event progressed seamlessly.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

This experience helped me recognise that I was able to communicate clearly and remain composed while speaking in front of an audience. At the same time, I identified areas where I could continue to improve, such as my stage presence and voice modulation. Reflecting on my role encouraged me to continue developing my communication skills.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Being involved in a live event gave me the opportunity to develop my public speaking and communication skills. Delivering announcements in front of a large audience required clarity, confidence, and attentiveness. This experience allowed me to build these skills while contributing to the successful execution of the programme.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

Although my role was individual while on stage, it depended on effective coordination with the organisers, hosts, and other volunteers. Following the event schedule, communicating with the team, and ensuring timely introductions demonstrated how collaboration and coordination contribute to the smooth functioning of an event.

This experience helped me develop several IB Learner Profile attributes. As a Communicator, I delivered announcements clearly and appropriately for the audience while following the prepared script. I also demonstrated the qualities of a Risk-Taker by participating in a public-facing role during a live event. In addition, I became more Reflective by considering my performance and identifying ways to improve my communication skills in future opportunities. Working alongside the organisers and volunteers also strengthened my ability to be Balanced, as I managed my responsibilities while contributing effectively to the event.

Overall, volunteering at Kalakriti was a valuable experience that allowed me to contribute to a successful school event while strengthening my communication and collaboration skills. It highlighted the importance of preparation, coordination, and responsibility in ensuring that an event runs smoothly. Even though my role was limited, I was able to make a meaningful contribution and gain experience that will help me approach similar opportunities with greater confidence in the future.
