Introduction: As part of my CAS journey, I took the initiative to organize a farewell event for our graduating senior batch. This involved planning the event theme, coordinating decorations, arranging music and entertainment, creating a program flow, and working closely with a team of peers to bring the entire event together and give the seniors a memorable send-off.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:Organizing a farewell event turned out to be more challenging than I initially expected. I had to manage several moving parts at once, from finalizing a theme that would appeal to everyone, to staying within budget while still making the event feel special, to coordinating with vendors and teachers for approvals and logistics. There were moments when things didn’t go according to plan, such as last-minute changes to the venue setup or delays in getting materials, and I had to think quickly to find solutions. Through this process, I developed new skills in event planning, budgeting, and problem-solving under pressure, skills I hadn’t really had the chance to build before this experience.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience: From the very beginning, I took the lead in shaping this experience, starting with pitching the idea for the farewell theme and outlining a rough plan for how the event would come together. I broke down the planning process into stages, such as deciding on the theme, assigning tasks to team members, arranging decorations and entertainment, and finalizing the program schedule. I made sure to set timelines for each stage so that everything would be ready well before the actual event date. This experience taught me how much groundwork goes into initiating something from scratch and how important it is to plan carefully rather than leaving things until the last moment.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively: This event was not something I could have pulled off alone, and working with my team was central to its success. We divided responsibilities based on each person’s strengths, whether it was someone handling decorations, another managing the music and entertainment, or others coordinating logistics with teachers. There were moments of disagreement, particularly around creative decisions like the theme or program order, but we learned to listen to each other’s ideas and reach decisions that everyone felt good about. This experience showed me how much smoother and more creative the outcome becomes when a team works together, communicates openly, and supports each other through the planning process.
Conclusion: Organizing the farewell for our seniors turned out to be one of the most rewarding CAS experiences I’ve undertaken, allowing me to combine creativity with real organizational responsibility. Throughout the process, I learned how to take initiative and plan an experience from the ground up, developed new problem-solving skills when challenges arose, and discovered the true value of collaborating with a team toward a shared goal. Overall, this experience reminded me that meaningful events don’t come together on their own. They require careful planning, creative thinking, and genuine teamwork, and seeing the seniors enjoy their farewell made all the effort feel truly worthwhile.
