As part of the University Fair held at Fountainhead School on 16th January 2026, I volunteered to support the organization and management of the event. The University Fair brought together representatives from different universities to interact with students and provide guidance about higher education opportunities. As a volunteer, my responsibility was to assist the organizers in ensuring that the event ran smoothly and that both university representatives and students had a comfortable and organized experience.
Before the event, all volunteers attended a briefing meeting on 15th January 2026 where we were given instructions and assigned our specific responsibilities. This meeting helped us understand the structure of the event, our roles, and how we could assist the visiting university representatives. On the day of the fair, volunteers were required to report early at 7:40 am and gather at the Rendezvous (Assembly) so that final preparations could be completed before the event began.
My role involved supporting the event logistics, assisting guests, and helping coordinate different aspects of the fair. This included guiding university representatives to their designated stalls, helping them set up their spaces, and assisting students who were looking for specific universities or information. Through these tasks, I contributed to ensuring that the event remained organized and welcoming for everyone involved.
LO1: Identify own strengths and areas for growth
This experience helped me recognize some of my strengths, particularly in communication and organization. While assisting guests and guiding students, I realized that I am comfortable interacting with new people and providing help when needed. At the same time, I also noticed that large events require quick decision making and better situational awareness. This made me realize that I should continue developing my ability to handle unexpected situations more confidently.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
A challenge during the event was managing multiple responsibilities at once. At times, several visitors needed assistance simultaneously, and it was important to stay calm and respond efficiently. I had to think quickly, communicate clearly, and ensure that everyone received the support they needed. Through this experience, I improved my communication, problem solving, and adaptability in busy environments.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Although the University Fair was organized by the school, volunteers still had to take initiative within their roles. After attending the briefing session, I prepared myself by understanding the layout of the event and the universities participating so that I could guide visitors effectively. Being proactive during the event allowed me to assist both students and university representatives more efficiently.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The event required volunteers to arrive early and remain actively involved throughout the fair. From helping with preparations before the event began to assisting visitors during the fair, I stayed committed to my responsibilities. Maintaining focus and energy throughout the event helped ensure that everything ran smoothly.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The success of the University Fair depended on strong teamwork between volunteers, teachers, and event coordinators. Volunteers supported each other by sharing responsibilities and assisting whenever additional help was required. This collaborative environment made the event more organized and effective. Working with others helped me understand the importance of clear communication and cooperation when managing large events.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
The University Fair highlighted the importance of education and access to global opportunities. By interacting with university representatives from different institutions, students were able to learn about international education pathways and future career possibilities. Being part of this event helped me appreciate the value of education as a tool for personal and global development.
Overall Reflection
Volunteering at the University Fair 2026 was a valuable service experience. It allowed me to contribute to an event that supported students in exploring their future academic paths. Through this experience, I developed stronger communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Most importantly, it showed me how collaborative efforts and responsible volunteering can help create meaningful opportunities for others.
