On 16th January 2026, our school organized a University Fair, an event designed to help students explore higher education opportunities. I volunteered to assist the staff and worked alongside my peers to ensure the event ran smoothly, from setting up stalls to guiding students and managing logistics throughout the day.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Volunteering at the fair gave me a clearer picture of where I stand in terms of organizational and interpersonal skills. I realized that I am quite good at coordinating tasks and communicating with people, as I was able to guide students to the right university stalls without much difficulty. However, I also noticed that I tend to get overwhelmed when multiple people ask for help at the same time, which showed me that I need to work on staying calm under pressure and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Organizing an event of this scale was far more demanding than I had initially anticipated. Managing the crowd, ensuring each university representative had everything they needed, and simultaneously directing students was genuinely challenging. Through this experience I developed new skills in event coordination, time management, and public communication, things I had never really been tested on before. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow in ways a regular school day simply cannot.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
The fair lasted the entire day and keeping up the energy and focus from start to finish was no easy task. There were moments where the crowd became overwhelming and the constant back and forth between different stalls and students left me exhausted. However, I pushed through and remained committed to my responsibilities until the very end. I did not take unnecessary breaks and made sure that every student who approached me for help received proper guidance, which I feel truly reflects my dedication to seeing the experience through.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
The fair would not have been possible without effective teamwork. With so many moving parts, no single person could have managed it alone. My peers and I divided responsibilities, with some handling registration, others directing foot traffic, and some assisting the university representatives directly. This division of roles made the event far more efficient and taught me how much smoother things go when everyone plays their part and communicates clearly.
Volunteering at the University Fair was a genuinely rewarding experience. It challenged me in ways I did not expect, from managing the chaos of a busy event to working closely with peers and staff toward a shared goal. More than anything, it reminded me that service is not just about showing up, it is about being present, contributing meaningfully, and growing through the process.
