The Garba Fest was a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, rhythm, and togetherness. My primary goal for participating was to explore the creative aspect of traditional dance and to enjoy expressing myself through movement while connecting with others. This activity was part of the Creativity strand of CAS, as it allowed me to learn, perform, and appreciate a culturally rich art form. Through this event, I aimed to improve my coordination, confidence, and ability to perform in front of an audience while celebrating teamwork and joy.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During the Garba Fest, I discovered that one of my strengths is my ability to quickly learn and remember dance steps. I also realized that I have a good sense of rhythm and coordination, which helped me perform confidently and stay in sync with the group. Another strength I identified was my teamwork — I was able to adapt to the group’s energy and support others while maintaining the overall flow of the dance. However, I noticed that I sometimes hesitate when performing in large groups, worrying about making mistakes. I would like to work on this by focusing more on enjoying the moment rather than striving for perfection. If I had overcome this hesitation earlier, I could have danced more freely and connected even better with the group. This experience taught me that confidence and collaboration are essential for growth in creative activities.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
One of the main challenges of Garba Fest was maintaining the rhythm and energy throughout the long sessions while coordinating movements with many people. It was physically demanding and required both stamina and concentration. Although I had participated in Garba before, this event was on a larger scale and required more synchronization. I overcame the challenge by practicing consistently, observing experienced dancers, and staying patient with myself during mistakes. Taking on this challenge helped me develop better timing, rhythm awareness, and teamwork in a creative setting. It made me realize how important it is to step outside my comfort zone to learn new skills. These new abilities—like coordination, endurance, and adaptability—will help me in future performances and group activities, building my confidence and creative expression.
Learning Outcome 4:Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Participating in the Garba Fest required continuous practice sessions and active involvement in preparation. Even when I felt tired after school, I stayed committed to rehearsing with my group to ensure we performed well together. It wasn’t always easy to keep up the energy, but my passion for dance and my commitment to the team motivated me to continue. Staying dedicated to this activity taught me the importance of perseverance—not giving up even when things feel repetitive or exhausting. This experience made me realize that commitment leads to growth and that consistent effort always results in a sense of accomplishment and pride.
Learning Outcome 5:Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Garba is all about community, rhythm, and coordination, making teamwork essential. Working with others was enjoyable, as we had to stay in sync and support each other throughout the performance. For me, collaborating with others is generally easy, and this event reinforced the joy of shared creativity. There were moments when some members struggled with steps or timing, but we helped each other improve with patience and encouragement. Through teamwork, we learned to move as one group rather than as individuals, which made our performance more cohesive and fun. This experience showed me how collaboration brings out the best in everyone and how collective effort can turn a simple dance into a memorable celebration of culture and unity.
The Garba Fest was a joyful and culturally enriching experience that strengthened my creativity, confidence, and teamwork skills. It taught me that dance is not just about movement—it’s about connection, discipline, and celebration. Through commitment and collaboration, I not only improved my abilities but also gained a deeper appreciation for cultural traditions and the happiness that comes from learning together.
