As part of my CAS – activity strand, I participated in a surreal trek expedition to the Bhavar Kada waterfalls. My primary goal was to challenge myself physically while immersing myself into the picturesque nature and bond with my friends. Trekking is a strenuous activity that requires endurance, agility, balance with mental focus. I aimed to test my limits, check my physical fitness, and improve my stamina while at the same time paying attention to the safety of myself and my fellow peers.
Reflection based on learning outcomes
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
After this tedious yet adventurous trek, I discovered my strength of maintaining steady energy over long durations. Every time with the same level of motivation and energy. However, I also needed to work on my upper body balance, especially while climbing slippery rocks. Recognizing these areas for growth motivated me to include more upper body exercises in my fitness routine. Understanding both strengths and weaknesses has developed areas for growth for the future.
LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The trek posed various challenges – steep climbs, slippery stones, and the unpredictable weather. At first, navigating the wet, uneven parts scared me. I overcame this by observing trained and experienced trekkers who guided the trek, adjusting my movement accordingly. Eventually, my foot placements got better and I learned how to maintain balance while carrying a backpack. This skill won’t be only useful in the future treks but also in any physically demanding activity. By undertaking challenges, I developed new skills that will be my helping hand throughout my life.
LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The trek was a group and collaborative effort in ensuring safety and success. Without the company of my friends, I am sure, I would have had a different outlook on this trek which would definitely have been boring. I would have fallen and slipped millions of times if I didn’t have my friend behind me. We helped each other out by supporting and motivating each other, when one had lost hope in the trek, the other had the same level of energy when we started. I realized that collaborative work builds trust and creates a positive environment where everyone feels supported.
