On 7th Feb 2026 I decided to volunteer in Bal Mela, a school organized event where we interacted with underprivileged children and helped them grow in ways they normally wouldn’t be able to.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
During the Mela I was tasked with entertaining children by making them play games with my peer, while playing I realized that I really lacked leadership skills as I had a hard time controlling the children and making them understand the rules of the game, I also realized that I am good at planning and organizing as I was able to come up with games to keep the children entertained.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
The Mela lasted for a couple of hours during that time it was hard for us to catch a break as there were constantly children coming and going so taking a break was next to impossible however I persevered and with the help of my peers the children got an experience they will never forget.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
I worked with my peers as there were over 2000 children and managing them was not possible by one person, we took turns managing the children enabling us to take breaks, we also were split into duos to efficiently cover the whole school and manage the children which wouldn’t have been possible without effective collaboration.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance.
Throughout the world there are many underprivileged children who like these children don’t have access to world class school or equipment which I think is unfair, however by participating in Melas like this I can help reduce the disparity and hope to bring some equality to the children so they can also live their childhood moments to the fullest.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Sometimes I feel pity for these children because it is not their fault that they don’t have access to resources, however it also makes me self-introspect on the choices we make in our daily lives, the things we take for granted are they really that menial to us that we forget that to some they are essentials they fight for, it make me think twice before I spend money on buying things I want rather than things I need.
