For my CAS Community Service, I was able to instruct arts and crafts to kids from a public school during three weekends. The workshops emphasized the theme Best Out of Waste, encouraging students to utilize recycled and thrown-away materials to craft both practical and decorative objects. Interacting with the children enabled me to connect directly with the community, express my creativity, and foster a lively and educational space where they could discover new abilities.
LO2 – Show that challenges have been faced, acquiring new abilitiesDuring the sessions, I encountered numerous challenges, particularly in organizing age-suitable activities and handling resources for a large group of lively students. I needed to be inventive, streamline directions, and modify my teaching approach to maintain the children’s interest. These experiences enabled me to acquire new skills like managing the classroom, communicating more effectively, and quickly adjusting when activities deviated from the original plan.
LO4 – Demonstrate determination and dedication in the CAS journeyThe project demanded regular planning and monitoring every week. I managed the collection of recycled materials, organized demonstrations, liaised with the school, and made sure every session operated efficiently. In spite of time limitations and unforeseen challenges, I stayed dedicated during all three weekends
LO5 – Showcase abilities and advantages of collaborating effectively.Teamwork was crucial to the success of this community service event. I collaborated with fellow volunteers to arrange resources, allocate tasks, and direct various groups of children. We conveyed our ideas effectively, backed each other during difficulties, and fostered a setting where collaboration enhanced productivity and the overall experience. Collaborating not only enhanced the effectiveness of the sessions but also demonstrated the importance of teamwork in community-oriented initiatives.
This CAS experience was highly significant, enabling me to make a positive impact in the community while also developing personally and creatively. Instructing the kids emphasized the importance of sustainability, collaboration, and perseverance. I acquired new abilities, enhanced my dedication, and attained a greater insight into how minor acts of service can produce unforgettable and significant learning experiences. In general, this experience allowed me to develop as a person while truly impacting the lives of the students I instructed
