Cross Country Run

Introduction:

The cross country run was a three-day CAS experience where I participated in all three races: two 3 km runs and one 5 km run. While each grade had its own category, I was given the opportunity to run in all of them, which made the experience more challenging and engaging. Since I am already physically active, this event allowed me to test my endurance across different distances and conditions. It also connects to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, as it promotes physical fitness, stamina, and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through this event, I was able to clearly see my strengths and areas that need improvement. I performed well in both 3 km runs, which showed that my current fitness level supports shorter distances effectively. However, the 5 km run was more difficult, and I struggled to keep a steady pace. This helped me realise that I need to build greater endurance for longer runs.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Participating in all three races, especially the 5 km run, was a significant challenge for me. Even though I knew it would be more demanding, I still chose to take part. During the run, I had to manage my energy, control my breathing, and push through fatigue, which helped me develop better endurance and pacing skills.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Throughout the three days, I remained committed to completing all the runs despite the physical strain. Running on consecutive days required consistency and recovery management, especially after the more tiring 5 km run. Even when I felt exhausted, I continued to participate fully and did not give up midway. This shows perseverance and dedication, which are important aspects of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

The cross country run also helped me engage with the broader idea of health and well-being as a global priority. It made me realise how regular physical activity contributes to both physical and mental health. Events like these promote awareness about staying active, which is an important part of SDG 3. It also helped me understand that maintaining fitness is not just a personal goal but part of a larger effort to encourage healthier lifestyles in society.

Reflection:

Overall, the cross country event was a valuable experience that tested my physical abilities and helped me grow. While I was confident in shorter distances, the 5 km run pushed me to recognise my limits and areas for improvement. It helped me develop endurance, perseverance, and a better understanding of my fitness level. This experience reinforced the importance of staying active and continuously improving, aligning closely with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
