I have done Rock Climbing for my CAS Activity. I have performed this activity in school.
As an athletic person with prior rock climbing experience, I took part in this activity to refine my skills and keep them sharp. Even though I was already familiar with climbing, each route challenged my balance, focus, and technique. Over the four sessions, I worked on improving my endurance, foot placement, and route planning. This experience helped me stay disciplined and consistent while strengthening both my physical ability and mental focus. Overall, it was a great way to refresh my climbing skills and continue growing as an athlete.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled
Through rock climbing, I have developed a clearer understanding of both my strengths and the areas I need to improve. One of my key strengths is precise footwork and the ability to read routes effectively, which allows me to climb with control and plan my movements confidently. At the same time, I have identified areas for growth, such as improving my upper-body strength, core stability, and dynamic movements for more advanced routes. I also aim to build greater endurance and stay calm under pressure. Recognising these strengths and weaknesses helps guide my continued development as a climber.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Rock climbing has continually encouraged me to take on new challenges and build skills beyond my comfort zone. Whether attempting steeper routes or adapting to smaller holds, each climb requires focus and determination. Through this, I have strengthened my problem-solving skills, improved my balance, and gained better body control. Challenging routes have helped me develop greater endurance, coordination, and precision. I have also learned to stay calm and focused during difficult moments. Overall, these experiences have expanded my abilities and increased my confidence as a climber.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Throughout this CAS rock climbing experience, I showed strong commitment and perseverance while working on precise footwork and maintaining solid grips. There were moments when I slipped or lost balance, which was frustrating, but I chose to refocus instead of giving up. Rather than coming down, I adjusted my position and continued the climb. With each session, my movements became smoother and more controlled. Over time, I grew stronger and more confident. This experience taught me that perseverance is not just about reaching the top, but about pushing through challenges, learning from mistakes, and staying determined even under pressure.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Across the four sessions, I understood that climbing is not only about personal strength but also about cooperation. Each ascent depended on a belayer who controlled the rope, which meant safety relied on strong communication and mutual trust. I needed confidence in my partner’s attentiveness and responsibility, and I provided the same level of focus when supporting them. Sharing this responsibility showed me how important coordination and clear instructions are in challenging physical activities. It improved my ability to communicate clearly, depend on others when necessary, and contribute equally to a team effort.
Reflection:
Overall, I felt really nostalgic while I was performing rock climbing in all 4 sessions as I was previously into this sport but never got the chance to indulge myself in this. Now that I am in grade 11 and have learned about learning outcomes. I can revolutionize how I potary this sport through the lenses on collaboration, improving and gagging my strengths and weaknesses and becoming a risk-taker.
