In this CAS experience, I volunteered in designing posters, certificates, placards, and a video presentation in a school event. I was to make sure that all materials were aesthetically appealing and conveyed information to the audience in an effective manner. This experience enabled me to address a number of CAS learning outcomes.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
The experience enabled me to realize that I am strong in creativity and visual design. I was sure to pick color schemes, layouts and fonts, which presented the materials appealing and readable. Nevertheless, I also understood that I have to work on my time management capacity because there were cases when it was difficult to balance various design assignments and meet the deadline.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The problem I experienced was how to make designs which were convincing as well as attractive. I needed to acquire more knowledge on how to make better use of the design tools and consider the effects of visual elements on communication. This assisted me in acquisition of new technical and creative skills.
Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I was also dedicated to the process, whereby all the materials were done within time constraints and of high quality. Even in those cases when the revision was needed, I remained determined to make my work better and help the team.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
I collaborated with my colleagues, exchanging the ideas and taking feedback to improve the final product. Cooperation enabled us to share our strengths and attain greater outcomes, and I learned the significance of communication and teamwork towards accomplishing a shared objective.
Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
During the design of materials, I have made sure that the material was relevant, all-inclusive, and respectful to all participants. I also had an awareness of how design decisions would affect perception and responsible decisions were made to clearly and ethically deliver information.
Reflection: Altogether, this experience of CAS service was good because it enabled me to help make an event successful and acquire valuable personal and team-based skills. It helped me to strengthen my belief that service may be relayed through creative contributions, and I would like to improve on more of my skills and responsibilities in future CAS activities.
