For the Fountainhead School MUN, I was part of the decor team responsible for designing and setting up all visual elements across committees, hallways, and common areas. My work included creating banners, posters, props, backdrops, and thematic installations that aligned with the overall MUN aesthetic. For nearly 2–3 months, the entire organizing committee arrived early every day to paint, plan layouts, build structures, and ensure that the school looked visually cohesive and professional for the event. This was a creative, hands-on experience that required patience, precision, and strong teamwork.
LO1 – Identifying Own Strengths and Areas for Growth
Being part of the decor team helped me understand my strengths in creativity, visual design, and attention to detail. I realised I am able to conceptualise ideas and contribute meaningfully to the artistic direction of large-scale displays. At the same time, I recognised areas where I can grow—particularly time management and prioritising tasks during long preparation periods. Working under deadlines made me aware of the importance of planning ahead and pacing my work more efficiently beyond just academics.
LO2 – Demonstrating Challenges Undertaken and Development of New Skills
Designing decor for an event as large as MUN came with several challenges. We had to create pieces that were visually appealing, durable, and easy to install, while working with limited materials and strict deadlines. Long hours of cutting, painting, and assembling decorations taught me new practical skills such as large-scale art creation, colour coordination, and efficient material handling all while being under a budget. I also learned to adapt quickly when certain ideas did not work as expected, which strengthened my problem-solving and creative decision-making.
LO4 – Showing Commitment and Perseverance in CAS Experiences
This experience demanded consistent commitment over several weeks. We came to school early almost every day, often working for long stretches before regular classes began. There were days when the workload felt exhausting, yet we remained committed because we wanted the event to turn out well. Staying dedicated through repetitive tasks, last-minute changes, and time pressure taught me perseverance. Seeing the final décor come together during the MUN made the effort completely worthwhile.
LO5 – Demonstrating Collaboration and Recognising Its Benefits
The decor outcome was a direct result of strong collaboration within our team. Each person brought different strengths—painting, crafting, layout planning, and execution—and we had to coordinate constantly to stay on track. We divided tasks, supported one another during tight deadlines, and combined ideas to produce cohesive designs. Working together not only made the workload manageable but also improved the quality of the final result. This experience reinforced how teamwork enhances creativity and makes large projects more successful.
