One Day Trek – Activity

I went on a one day trek to a waterfall in Dang organized by our school. What initially felt like a simple outdoor trip with friends turned out to be a meaningful CAS experience that challenged me physically, mentally, and socially.

LO1 – The trek began early in the morning. The terrain was uneven, with muddy patches, steep inclines, and narrow trails surrounded by dense forest. Although I consider myself moderately fit, I quickly realized that trekking requires stamina and balance that I had not fully developed. This experience helped me identify my strengths and areas for growth. While I was comfortable walking long distances, I struggled during steep climbs and slippery sections. This showed me that I need to work on lower body strength and endurance.

LO2 – Before the trek, we were briefed about safety guidelines, hydration, and staying together as a group. Following these rules and being mindful of our surroundings demonstrated how we undertook challenges and developed new skills. I learned practical skills such as pacing myself, using natural supports like rocks and branches for balance, and conserving energy during long walks.

LO4 – This trek also required commitment and active engagement from start to finish. Waking up early, preparing physically, carrying essentials, and maintaining discipline throughout the day reflects my commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences .

LO5 – Reaching the waterfall was extremely rewarding. The sound of flowing water and the view after hours of trekking reminded me that perseverance leads to accomplishment. There were moments when I felt tired and considered slowing down significantly, but encouraging words from my friends helped me continue. This showed how collaboration and teamwork are essential in physically demanding situations. We constantly checked on one another, shared water when needed, and helped each other cross difficult patches. This clearly reflects how I worked collaboratively with others.

LO6 – Additionally, we were instructed not to litter and to respect the natural environment. Seeing plastic waste in certain areas made me more aware of human impact on nature. As a group, we collected small pieces of trash along our path. This small action made me reflect on environmental responsibility and how even minor efforts contribute to sustainability. Through this, I developed a stronger awareness of global and environmental issues.

Overall, this trek was more than just a school trip. It pushed me outside my comfort zone, strengthened my friendships, increased my environmental awareness, and helped me recognize areas where I can improve physically. It reminded me that growth often comes from stepping into unfamiliar and challenging environments.
