This student carnival experience was meaningful and impactful, as I helped teach students about the Sustainable Development Goals through interactive games and activities. Engaging with them in this playful yet educational way allowed me to develop patience, creativity, and stronger communication skills. The experience also made me more aware of global issues and the importance of spreading awareness in simple and relatable ways. All CAS Learning Outcomes were met through this engagement, and the details are outlined below.
Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

During the Children’s Day carnival, creating a waste management sorting game for students from a government school encouraged me to think both creatively and practically. I had to turn an important environmental topic into a simple and engaging activity that students could easily understand. The game included three bowls representing different waste bins, and the children had to sort chits into the correct category. Explaining the rules clearly and adjusting my tone and approach for different age groups helped me improve my communication and facilitation skills. Overall, the experience made me more confident in leading activities and more aware of the importance of hands-on learning.
Learning outcome 2 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
This experience began with brainstorming how to convert the idea of waste management into an interactive game for the carnival. I contributed to planning the booth setup, preparing the materials, and organizing how the students would participate in the sorting activity. We also planned timing, practiced instructions, and tested the game to ensure it was clear and engaging. Initiating and planning this CAS experience helped me understand the value of preparation, structure, and thoughtful organization when creating an activity that is both meaningful and enjoyable.
Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Preparing the materials, planning the game, and running the activity throughout the carnival required ongoing effort and consistency. At times the booth became busy and overwhelming, or some children hesitated to participate, but I stayed motivated and focused on making the activity enjoyable and educational for everyone. I continuously encouraged the students, reset the game multiple times, and ensured the message of proper waste segregation was clearly understood. The perseverance of my tea, and I helped keep the booth organized and effective, even during the most crowded moments.
