CAS Reflection – Bhavar Kada Waterfalls Trek (25th July 2025)
Location: Bhavar Kada Waterfalls, Dang
Type of CAS Experience: Activity (Physical and Collaborative Trekking Challenge)
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in the one-day trek to Bhavar Kada Waterfalls was both physically and mentally challenging. The 4-hour hike, filled with steep declines and muddy trails, tested our balance, endurance, and mental focus. One key strength I identified was my ability to stay calm and focused in difficult conditions. Despite the slippery paths and tricky terrain, I maintained a steady pace and managed to support my teammates by offering encouragement and tips for balancing. This helped build my leadership and collaborative skills, as I actively contributed to the team’s morale.
However, the experience also revealed an area where I need improvement, my physical stamina and leg strength. I noticed that I was becoming fatigued quicker than I expected, especially during steep climbs. This realization highlighted the need for me to include regular endurance and strength training in my fitness routine. The trek gave me a clearer understanding of how I respond to physical challenges and motivated me to make targeted improvements in my training.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
This trek was not just a walk in nature, it was a physically demanding journey that required me to adapt quickly, learn on the go, and overcome discomfort. The muddy trails and steep downhill paths required the use of beginner-level trekking skills such as maintaining balance, using natural supports like rocks and branches, and careful foot placement. These were skills I had to develop and apply in real time as we progressed along the trail.
Beyond physical abilities, I also developed important soft skills such as situational awareness, teamwork, and resilience. There were moments when I slipped or felt extremely tired, but I pushed myself to keep going. Encouraging others and accepting help when needed also showed me the value of cooperation and humility. The feeling of reaching the waterfall after a long trek made every challenge feel worthwhile. Overall, this experience taught me how to go beyond my comfort zone and treat challenges as opportunities for growth.
