CAS Strand: Project
SDG: 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
For the Grade 11 Freshers, I was involved in planning and organizing an event to welcome the new Grade 11 students. The main purpose was to give everyone a chance to interact outside the usual classroom environment and make the transition into Grade 11 more comfortable. Planning an event for a large group was different from simply attending one because I had to think about what would make the experience enjoyable for everyone while also making sure the event was properly organized.
A major part of the experience was working with the other students involved in the planning. We had to discuss ideas, divide responsibilities, and make sure that different parts of the event came together. There were moments where plans had to be changed or adjusted, but working together made it easier to solve problems and keep the event moving. Seeing the students actually enjoy the activities and interact with each other made the planning feel worthwhile.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Being involved in the Freshers required me to take responsibility during the planning process rather than simply showing up on the day. I had to think about how the event would flow, what activities would work for the students, and how different responsibilities could be managed. This helped me understand that a successful event depends heavily on preparation and that even small details can affect the overall experience.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The Freshers was a team effort, and I could not have managed everything individually. Different people had different responsibilities, so communication and coordination were important throughout the process. Working together also meant listening to other people’s ideas and sometimes changing my own approach, which showed me how much easier it is to solve problems when everyone contributes their strengths.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Although the Freshers was a school event, it connected to the wider importance of building inclusive communities and meaningful relationships. Creating an environment where students from different backgrounds could interact and feel welcomed reminded me that collaboration and inclusion are important beyond school as well. The experience showed me that strong communities are built through communication, participation, and making people feel that they belong.
Overall, the Freshers gave me an opportunity to experience what goes into organizing an event rather than simply being a participant. It helped me become more comfortable with planning, communicating, and working with a team. More importantly, seeing the new Grade 11 students enjoy themselves made me feel that the effort put into the event had a genuine purpose.
