Ambapani Rural Immersion Camp CAS Reflection

As part of my CAS experience, I attended a six-day rural immersion camp in Ambapani. The camp gave me the opportunity to experience village life while learning about sustainability, environmental conservation, and local culture. Throughout the week, I participated in a variety of activities including farming, bamboo craft, Warli art, bird watching, village visits, and environmental clean-up drives. Living in a rural setting helped me understand how closely people’s daily lives are connected to nature and how sustainable practices can positively impact both the community and the environment.

LO1 Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

The camp helped me discover that I adapt well to new environments and enjoy working with others. I actively participated in every activity and was willing to try experiences that were unfamiliar to me. At the same time, I realised that I need to improve my physical stamina and become better at managing my time during busy schedules. These challenges encouraged me to become more disciplined and resilient.

LO2 Undertake Challenges and Develop New Skills

Many of the activities were completely new to me. Learning bamboo weaving, creating Warli paintings, working on a farm, making traditional leaf plates, and identifying birds by their calls required patience, concentration, and creativity. Interacting with local villagers and students also improved my communication skills and gave me a better understanding of different lifestyles and cultures.

LO3 Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

The camp increased my awareness of environmental sustainability. Taking part in plastic collection activities and learning about waste management showed me how everyday actions can help protect natural ecosystems. I also understood how rural communities depend on conserving natural resources, reinforcing the importance of sustainable living in addressing global environmental challenges.

LO4 Show Commitment and Perseverance

The camp followed a demanding schedule that included outdoor activities, workshops, treks, and evening reflection sessions. Although some activities were physically challenging, I remained committed and completed each task with enthusiasm. This experience taught me that perseverance and a positive attitude are essential when facing unfamiliar situations.

Overall Reflection

The Ambapani Rural Immersion Camp was one of the most valuable CAS experiences I have participated in. It broadened my understanding of sustainability, strengthened my teamwork and communication skills, and helped me appreciate the simplicity and resilience of rural communities. Most importantly, it inspired me to become more environmentally conscious and to apply sustainable habits in my everyday life. The experience showed me that personal growth often comes from stepping outside my comfort zone and learning directly from people and nature.
