Blood Donation Drive – Service

On the 15th of August 2025, I volunteered with the Anand Rehabilitation Trust to help organize and promote a Blood Donation Drive that took place alongside Independence Day celebrations for differently-abled children. The event aimed to spread awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and encourage members of the community to participate in this humanitarian cause. My responsibilities included assisting with donor registrations, coordinating between volunteers and the medical staff, and engaging with visitors to advocate for the donation process. Throughout this experience, I could find myself working on three particular learning outcomes, as mentioned below.

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before the event, I contributed to planning the volunteer responsibilities and communication flow between donors and organizers. I took initiative in preparing sign-up materials and ensuring that all donors had the necessary information regarding the procedure and safety measures. This experience strengthened my ability to plan systematically and manage responsibilities efficiently in a real-world setting.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The Blood Donation Drive required strong collaboration among volunteers, medical professionals, and members of the Anand Rehabilitation Trust. Working together under pressure taught me how vital teamwork and communication are in managing large-scale events. Supporting and coordinating with others helped me appreciate the collective effort required to achieve social goals.

LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Advocating for blood donation involved ensuring that donors were well-informed and made voluntary, ethical choices. I learned to handle these interactions with honesty and sensitivity, ensuring that participants felt comfortable and respected throughout the process. This experience highlighted the ethical importance of transparency and compassion in community service.

The initiative and empathy I demonstrated helped me build the learner profiles of Caring, Communicator, and Principled. In conclusion, the Blood Donation Drive was a deeply fulfilling experience that not only allowed me to contribute to a cause of global significance but also helped me grow as a responsible and ethical member of society.
