As part of my CAS Service experience, I participated in a Children’s Carnival where my team and I set up an interactive booth based on the theme of empathy, kindness, and inclusion. Our aim was to engage children in meaningful yet fun conversations about conflict resolution and peaceful decision-making. We presented relatable situations such as disagreements between friends or misunderstandings during play, and encouraged children to listen carefully, think critically, and suggest fair and peaceful solutions. The activity involved discussion and group decision-making, allowing children to express their ideas while respecting different perspectives.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the main challenges was keeping the children engaged while also ensuring they understood the purpose of the activity. Since each child had a different way of thinking, I had to adapt quickly and communicate clearly. This helped me develop skills like flexibility, patience, and the ability to explain ideas in a simple and engaging way.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
This experience required careful planning, from selecting the theme to creating age-appropriate and relatable situations. We structured the activity in a way that was interactive and meaningful, ensuring that it achieved its purpose effectively.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork played an important role in the success of our booth. We divided responsibilities, shared ideas, and supported each other throughout the event. Working together helped us manage everything smoothly and create a better experience for the children.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The activity focused on values like empathy, inclusion, and peaceful conflict resolution, which connect to broader global issues such as equality and justice. It helped raise awareness among children about the importance of understanding and respecting others.
LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Through the situations discussed, children were encouraged to think about fairness, respect, and making the right choices. This also helped me reflect on how individual actions can impact others and the importance of making ethical decisions.
Overall, this experience was both enjoyable and meaningful, as it allowed me to contribute to the community while developing important skills like communication, teamwork, and ethical thinking. It reinforced the idea that even small efforts can help promote empathy and create a more inclusive and peaceful environment.
