From 25th August to 31st January 2026, I participated in a long-term CAS service experience where I visited a government school every alternate Saturday. During these visits, I interacted with students and introduced clubs such as arts, science, English, dance, sports, and mathematics through simple and engaging activities. The aim of this initiative was to support the holistic development of students by exposing them to learning opportunities beyond their regular curriculum. Many government school students have limited access to extracurricular activities, so these sessions helped encourage creativity, teamwork, confidence, and communication skills while addressing the issue of limited access to holistic education in government schools.
This experience helped me achieve LO3 (Initiate and plan a CAS experience), LO4 (Show perseverance and commitment), and LO6 (Engagement with issues of global significance). LO3 was demonstrated by planning and organising engaging club activities that were suitable for the students’ age, interests, and learning levels, while adapting activities whenever needed to keep students actively involved. LO4 was achieved through my consistent participation over several months, balancing this commitment with my academic responsibilities and remaining dedicated to making each visit meaningful despite challenges such as varying student participation. LO6 was reflected in my efforts to promote equal access to quality learning opportunities beyond the classroom, helping students develop important life skills while contributing to the broader goal of reducing educational inequality.
The experience also connected with several SDGs, especially Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, and Climate Action. It reflected the IB learner profile attributes of Caring, as I worked to support the students’ learning and development, and Communicator, as I shared knowledge, encouraged participation, and built positive relationships with the students. Overall, this experience strengthened my communication, teamwork, leadership, adaptability, and teaching skills, while allowing me to make a positive impact on the students’ learning environment.
