Farewell

Dancing at the Grade 12 farewell was one of the most personal and meaningful CAS experiences I had this year. Unlike organizing events or working behind the scenes, this time I was the one stepping into the spotlight. The farewell marked the end of an important chapter of our school lives, and being part of the performance allowed me to express my creativity while contributing to a celebration that meant so much to all of us.

When I first agreed to participate in the dance performance, I was excited but also nervous. Performing in front of teachers, parents, and my entire grade felt intimidating. However, I saw this as an opportunity to challenge myself creatively and step outside my comfort zone. During rehearsals, we worked on choreography, formations, timing, and expressions. I enjoyed experimenting with movement and adding small personal touches that made the performance feel authentic rather than mechanical. Dance became more than just steps—it became a way to express gratitude, nostalgia, and joy as we prepared to say goodbye to school.

The rehearsal process required commitment and consistency. Balancing practices with academic deadlines and exam preparation was not easy, especially during Grade 12 when pressure is at its peak. There were days when I felt tired or overwhelmed, but showing up to practice reminded me why I chose to be part of this performance. It was not only about the final show but also about the shared experience with my classmates. Over time, I noticed my confidence growing, both in my dancing and in my ability to perform publicly without overthinking every move.

This experience strongly connected to CAS Learning Outcome 5: developing collaborative skills and recognizing the benefits of working collaboratively. Dance is never just an individual effort—it depends on synchronization, trust, and mutual support. If even one person misses a cue or formation, it affects the entire group. Through this process, I learned how important communication is, whether it was clarifying counts, adjusting spacing, or encouraging each other after a difficult rehearsal. We gave each other feedback respectfully and celebrated small improvements together. I realized that collaboration is not just about dividing tasks; it is about being accountable to one another and working toward a shared goal.
