About the Activity
I participated in a photography exhibition where I created a live painting in the gallery space, combining painting with the visual themes presented in the photography exhibition. The event was part of the Visual Poetries Photography Awardsexhibition held at the Science Centre in Surat. During the exhibition, visitors could observe my artistic process in real time as I developed the painting from start to finish. This experience was unique because it required me to work within a limited time frame while simultaneously engaging with viewers who were curious about the artwork and the process behind it. It allowed me to explore the relationship between photography and painting, and how visual art forms can complement each other.
LO1 – Identify strengths and develop areas for growth
As someone who has always been passionate about art, this experience helped me recognize my strengths in visual storytelling, composition, and colour usage. I felt confident translating ideas onto the canvas and adapting my painting to the theme of the exhibition. At the same time, the live format made me realize areas where I could improve, particularly in working more efficiently and making quicker artistic decisions while painting. Observing my process in a public setting encouraged me to reflect on how I approach my artwork and identify ways to continue developing my artistic skills.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken
Painting live in front of an audience was a significant challenge because it required both technical skill and confidence. Unlike working privately, the audience could observe every stage of the painting, including mistakes and adjustments. Additionally, completing the artwork within a set time required me to work faster than usual while still maintaining quality. This experience pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me develop greater confidence in presenting my artistic process publicly.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experiences
Creating a complete painting during the exhibition required sustained concentration and dedication. I had to remain focused for an extended period while continuously refining the artwork and ensuring that it progressed toward a finished composition. Despite the pressure of time and the presence of an audience, I stayed committed to completing the painting thoughtfully. This experience strengthened my perseverance and taught me the importance of remaining patient and focused even when working under time constraints.
